Summary
Charles Macaulay, as the papers would later print, died following a quick and brutal onslaught of liver cirrhosis. It came quite like a stealthy hand, creeping up behind with a quick slash to the throat before his nerves had time to sense the stillness in the air. No creaks in the floorboards, no whispers of breath. A sudden, though certainly not peaceful, crumble and collapse.
