Work Text:
The sound of a door slamming echoed into the darkness, followed by heavy breathing and footsteps on the floor.
Astro flopped down onto his bed and screamed into his pillow. Everything ached, both physically and mentally. He felt pained yet so hollow.
Why was he like this? Why was he so sensitive and childish? Why couldn’t he just be normal?
He lifted his head from the pillow, tears streaming down his face. He knew it, he knew he should’ve stopped trusting people. Why did he think it was different this time around? How stupid was he?
Well, this time solidified it. Astro was never going to trust someone ever again. Everyone was the same, they’d treat him well and act as if they cared only to abandon him. But then again, it was all his fault, wasn’t it? Maybe he did something wrong, maybe he was that annoying and horrible.
Was he the problem? No, he couldn’t be. But that’d explain why everyone always left, right? What was he doing wrong?
He cried harder, his body shaking with each sob that escaped his lips. If he did something wrong, why was no one telling him what he did? He wanted to become better, but no one was telling him what he was doing so he couldn’t!
It wasn’t that hard to tell him what exactly he was doing that was horrible. He wouldn’t have reacted badly, he’d be grateful! And yet no one confronted him about these things. It hurt.
Astro punched his pillow over and over again, his lower arms scratching at himself. He hated everyone. He hated them all. Most importantly, he hated Dandy. Dandy hated him, it was obvious, and yet he stayed. He prioritized other people before him, and yet he stayed. It confused and hurt him. He didn’t like being confused and hurt.
So many thoughts were running through Astro’s head, and he just wanted his mind to shut up. He wanted everyone and everything to shut up. Everything was so overwhelming, he felt like he was suffocating.
Astro picked up something from his nightstand and threw it, screaming. He didn’t know what exactly it was, and he didn’t care. Not at that moment, anyway. It hit the floor with a thud, it honestly might’ve broken but he was too busy dealing with his thoughts to notice.
He knew this would happen, why was he so upset? He expected this, and yet here he was, throwing a tantrum. He was pathetic.
Astro was about to throw something else, but then his phone lit up next to him. His eyes widened and he quickly turned it on, only to see a notification from Dandy. Astro’s fingers rapidly typed out his password and opened the notification, and what he saw was enough to calm him down. A sweet, loving message.
He wasn’t being ignored, Dandy didn’t hate him. Everything was okay.
Astro wiped his tears and quickly replied, his episode forgotten. He smiled and laughed to himself.
