Stolen in the dark

Summary:

The world sees a war of Light and Dark—righteousness against tyranny. But beneath the surface, reality is far more complex.

The Dark is not just a scattered rebellion but a structured force, built on strategy and hidden in plain sight. When the Light steals what they believe to be their victory, they make one fatal mistake—underestimating the ones left behind.

Two stolen children. A war fought in the shadows. Lies woven so deeply they blur the line between ally and enemy.

Harry Potter and Hermione Granger were never meant to be heroes of the Light. They were never meant to be found.

And when they return, it will be on their own terms.

Notes:

Not all betrayals come from enemies.

Lily Potter had a plan—one last chance to escape before it was too late. But trust is a fragile thing, and when it shatters, the consequences are irreversible.

Severus Snape and Lucius Malfoy arrive at Godric’s Hollow expecting a battle. What they find instead will change the course of everything.

Chapter 1: Shattered vows

Chapter Text

The night air was thick with tension, the weight of an unseen storm pressing down on the small village of Godric’s Hollow. Inside a quiet house, Lily Potter moved with urgency, her hands shaking as she packed a small bag.

Every movement was rushed, her breaths coming fast. She didn’t have much time.

Behind her, in a wooden crib, Harry slept peacefully—blissfully unaware that his world was about to change forever.

She reached for her wand—

Then the door creaked open.

A shadow moved in the dimly lit hallway.

“Lils?”

Lily froze.

James stood in the doorway, running a hand through his perpetually messy hair, his face drawn with exhaustion. His hazel eyes flickered over her, unaware of the half-packed bag behind her.

“You’re still awake?” His voice was casual, but there was something in his tone—a weight, a question.

Lily forced a smile. “Yeah. Just… couldn’t sleep.”

James chuckled softly, stepping into the room. “Tell me about it.”

He pressed a kiss to her temple, his touch lingering for just a second too long. “It’s almost over. Dumbledore says we just have to hold on a little longer.”

Her fingers clenched around the fabric of the bag. Right. Just a little longer.

James pulled back, watching her. He frowned.

“You sure you’re okay?”

Her heart pounded against her ribs. “Of course. I’m fine.”

James Potter had always been sharp when it came to her.

His gaze flickered over her again—taking in the tension in her shoulders, the way she wouldn’t meet his eyes.

Something shifted in his expression. His voice dropped.

“Lily… what’s going on?”

Her heart stuttered. She tried to keep her voice steady. “Nothing, I—”

James’ gaze flickered to the bag.

His expression hardened.

“You’re leaving.”

Lily gripped her wand tighter. “James, please—”

His voice was sharp now. “With Harry?”

She hesitated.

James exhaled, shaking his head. “Merlin, Lily… What the hell are you doing?”

She opened her mouth, but before she could explain—

James raised his wand.

Lily stepped back, hands up. “James, don’t.”

His voice was unsteady. “You were never going to tell me, were you?”

Lily didn’t answer.

James’ hands were shaking. His mind was reeling. The war had already taken so much—his friends, his peace, his safety. And now Lily.

She moved for her wand.

James reacted without thinking.

A spell shot from his wand—too fast, too sharp. A curse meant to stop her— but he was too angry, too reckless.

It hit Lily square in the chest.

For a second, neither of them breathed.

Then—Lily collapsed.

Silence.

James stared at her motionless body, horror creeping into his face.

His wand slipped from his fingers.

He stumbled forward, dropping to his knees. “Lily?”

No answer.

His hands hovered over her, shaking. “No, no, no…”

The front door eased open—quietly, deliberately.

A sharp crack echoed in the air.

Lucius Malfoy and Severus Snape apparated into Godric’s Hollow.

The house was eerily silent. The scent of burning wood lingered in the air.

They stepped inside cautiously, wands drawn.

Then they saw it.

James Potter stood frozen, his eyes wide, chest rising and falling in short gasps.

At his feet — Lily. Motionless. Lifeless.

Severus stopped breathing.

James’ wand trembled in his hand. His voice was hollow. Empty. “She was leaving.”

Lucius stepped forward, tone razor-sharp. “So you killed her?”

James’ voice cracked. “She was mine! You stole her from me!” His anger was desperate now, raw.

Lucius scoffed. “She was never yours, Potter.”

James stumbled, gripping his wand tightly. “I loved her.” His voice was hoarse, bitter.

Severus stepped closer, expression cold. “Then why is she dead?”

James’ breath shuddered. His eyes darted to Lily’s body. “I—” He exhaled shakily, his face twisting in horror. “I didn’t mean to—”

He knew there was no excuse.

Severus moved before he could think.

A single curse.

James Potter fell.

Silence.

Severus rushed to Lily, hands shaking as he touched her face. But there was nothing. No warmth.
