Chapter 1: Prolog

Chapter Text

Chuuya was never a "good" Angel. He somewhat resembled Lucifer before he fell - full of curiosity and care for the world, but even more rebellious.

He was the part of The Sheep, a small organization who helped human children get accustomed to the new enviroment, Heaven. Trust me or not, death is a traumatizing experience.
He was responsible for helping to guide their souls to Heaven and protecting them from Demons and Devils that tried to decive the innocent and lead them to Hell.

He was one of the best at his job, but because of his line of work being rather violent, other Angels feared him. Especially because of his fiery red wings and glowing markings on his skin.

Most would think being different in Heaven is celebrated, but it's not really seen that well - you can be different, but only in the ways that are considered normal. So, when a child with firery wings and red markings on the skin was born, the poor boy was destined to be ostracized. That's why he longed for something more than what Heaven could offer - he wanted to find out why he was born this way.

Osamu was "The Human Prodigy" The only mortal soul that somehow achived Demonhood.

The boy was found on the shore of the "Ocean of Sorrow" - a place where souls that were bad durning their lives and committed suicide float endlessly, experiencing death over and over. Most of them never were able to swim back to the shore, but somehow, the boy was thrown out the Ocean as if it feared him

The one who found him was no other than Ougai Mori, a demon of Pride under the command of Lucifer himself.

Soon, the older demon found a curious property of the young boy's body. Somehow, he had Virtue's blood in his system, potentially making him a Fallen Angel.

But the most interesting thing was, the boy's DNA was human. The boy was a paradox, an oxymoron - both a Divine being and a Common scum from Earth.

The boy studied his own indentity, wanting to know what he truly was. He didnt feel human, but he wasnt a demon either - despite black wings that emerged soon after he was discovered, he couldn't be considered one, since his soul was mortal. His life was a defience of logic itself. And Osamu was ready to find the reason why he was like this.

Waking up was always a hassle - contrary to popular belief, Angel's lives, at least Chuuya's rank, wasn't that different from human life. He had to brush his teeth, do his hair, sometimes even drink instant coffee on water - despicable.
The worst part of his morning was probably getting into the armor. A steel piece of junk that for something with such intricate designs, was extremly heavy and hard to put on. Not to mention that it clashed with his unusual characteristics. But what can he do? He's just an Angel. If he was an Archangel or even better, Principality, his quality of life would be great. Even humans get better treatment than Angels. You cant escape classicism even in Heaven, huh?
After cursing the Satan out for his life, he left to meet his comrades. Normal occurance, really. He'd call them friends, but everyone could tell he was feared there. He was feared wherever he went to.

He saw Shirase, Yuan and other members, as well with some young souls sitting in the corner - higher ranked Angels had to find place for them to stay in before they were able to play in Heaven freely, so The Sheep headquarters worked as some kind of daycare.

"Hey. Got any new tasks for me today or the same shi-" Chuuya was about to curse, but stopped dead in his tracks. "Or the same thing as always?" He corrected himself. Yuan smiled politely, despite her pose being tense and the smile she wore on her face strained. "Nope, the same thing as always, Chuuya!" She said before turning away and helping some children. The short boy looked to Shirase, seeking some kind of friendly conversation. He was met with dissapointment.

The thing he didn't know was that he was actually well respected in the group. But that came with a price of having everyone be scared of you. Not the best life to live. So, instead of having a normal conversation with people his age, he took his Holy Spear and left.

He prefers to fight hand-to-hand, but it is forbidden for Angels to harm any creature by something else than the Spear, Since it can only "Hurt those who are truly corrupted and evil".
The concept seems great at first, but then you start to wonder what does "corrupted and evil" means, you start to question the system that works in Heaven and... yeah. It's better to just stop thinking about it.

Chuuya always wondered how can so many bad things happen in a place that is suposed to be a paradise. He asked other angels and even menaged to ask a Seraphim once, but they never anwsered him, avoiding the question.

He was walking through the city, heading towards the Gate. His job was to find souls that were lost on their way to Heaven and lead them back, protecting them from any evil. He suspects he only got this job so others can get rid of him.

He got out of The City. The scenery around him was breath taking. At least, the first time he saw it. Never ending clouds with clear, blue sky. But he had to go lower.

So, He spread his wings and got up into the air, plunging right through the clouds and inti the lower levels. Doing that was extremely entertaining.

Dazai groaned as he slowly opened his eyes. It was to bright. He covered his body with his wings and tried to sleep, but he heard an annoying voice next to him.

"Zai, Rintarou is waiting for you." Elise, Mori's favorite sinner and servant said. She went to Hell for guilt tripping her own family into killing themselves. That's why he likes her. He finds her charm... amusing.

Brunette groaned once more and slowly rose from his make-shift bed, looking at the little girl with resentment.

"What does he want this time?"He asked with annoyance, knowing full well that little psychopath won't get hurt because of his attitude. "I don't know" She said innocently, with little emotion yet still a smile on her face. After he actually stood up from his bed, she left so he can make himself look at least a little bit presentable.

He put on a black button up shirt that has holes for his wings, a black tie, black flared pants and black dress shoes. He switched out the bandages that were on his wings, the last time he tried to cut them off. His logic was that he doesn't even know how to fly, and no one except an Angel or Lucifer could teach him, so why bother having them at all? Mori didnt take that attempt kindly. Especially that now his wings were almost completely limp and acted more like a black coat than wings.

Soon, he arrived at Moris office. The man had straight, shiny black hair with bangs that were parted by horns of the same color as his skin. He also had a little rat tail but he didnt show it to anyonet. He wore a doctor's quilt and black pants.

The Demon was sitting in his chair, reading some documents. When he noticed Dazai finally walking inside, he grinned.

"Ah, Dazai! I wondered if i had to ask Hirotsu to drag you in himself!"

"What is it, Mori?" He said, his voice as monotonne as ever.

"I want you to do two things today!" Oh, so its another mission. How fun."First, try to find any lost souls. We need more staff, especially with the quitings lately. Seriously, when did those sinners learn that they have rights in Hell? Who even GAVE them rights?!"

"To the point?" The younger demon cut off ranting that was about to start.

"Ah, yes. Second thing, theres been a rumour going around that "The Angel Of Destruction" has been born. Try and find more information about it. Maybe even get the Angel to come onto our side, preferably."
Dazai nodded and left without a word.

The Angel of Destrucion is actually a silly story. When Eve and Adam were banished to live in poverty, illnesses, pain, hunger and death spread out though the word like a plague. When God saw how their own creations are suffering, They thought they could try and find a way to help those in need. But they couldnt just change their mind on the punishment. It would show them that they can do whatever they want without any consequences. So, instead, they made a prototype Angel - a fiery warrior who fought demons and devils to help humans. For a long time, it was succesful. God was proud of their new invention - after all, the Angel was ambitious and full of passion. His ginger hair and unique wings were seen as the most beautiful. Unfortuantely, ambition is not always a good thing to have. The warrior believed that everyone who sinned in their life deserved to be banished to hell, to die in torture. He didnt understand that his own existance was made to forgive those, who disobeyed the rules. And so, after The Warrior Angel went on a killing spree, killing everyone who did wrong in their lives, he was banishd to a deep part of God's conciousness, just to one day be reborn and help fight evil once more. He was gradually forgotten, seen as only a story to scare children. As the memory of the Legendary warrior faded, he started growing stronger and more bitter, learning new things from God's endless mind. The more he knew, the more power he harboured. Soon, Turning into a beast that menaged to escape the most secure place - the God's mind. He was rumoured to hide itself in an Angel's womb. But never knew where he could hide.

How did Dazai knew that? Well, after having practically the eternity to read books, you start to look into more obscure ones. Especially since Dazai was looking for the key to his own existance.

As he slowly made his way up the staircase to the higher levels of the afterlife, he wondered if the story was true. If the Angel wasnt just out casted for totally different, unfair reason.

The path up the stairs was monotonne and boring. He could just fly up if he knew how to do that, but nooo! No one bothered to teach him.

When he finally got to the place lost souls are found - the space between Heaven and Hell, the other extremely boring part of hus job started - looking for children and convincing them to go with him.
