Chapter 1: The Baby, the Wallet, and the Wipeout

Chapter Text

It was the kind of quiet afternoon that felt stolen. The kind that only came after a whirlwind of work and sleep deprivation—the kind where the sun filters just right through the blinds, the world slows down, and your bones finally remember how to rest. That was exactly where Changbin was: asleep, face down on the couch, mouth slightly open, one arm flung over his chest like his soul had left his body for a bit.

He hadn’t even made it to the bedroom. Just collapsed onto the couch minutes after getting home from a week-long project grind with Chan and Jisung. Three days of endless takes, audio layering, and mixing hell for a new artist’s EP had left him completely drained. When it was finally wrapped and uploaded to the label drive that morning, all three of them sat on the floor in collective silence, empty coffee cups surrounding them like a crime scene. Changbin barely remembers getting home. He barely registered Hyunjin kissing his temple when he got home, barely registered Jongsoo running to greet him at the door with a squeal of “Dada!!” All he knew was the couch and gravity. His wallet, car keys, and phone were unceremoniously dumped beside him, half-hanging off the cushion. A forgotten offering to the gods of sleep.

When Hyunjin and Jongsoo returned from a quick grocery run, the sight that greeted them melted Hyunjin’s heart instantly.

Changbin, completely knocked out in his home clothes, cheeks flushed with sleep, one foot still wearing a sock and the other bare, surrounded by the clutter he always promised he’d organize "later". Hyunjin smiled fondly and crouched down next to him, brushing soft strands of hair off his forehead before planting a kiss there.

“He must be so tired,” Hyunjin whispered to Jongsoo, who was clinging to his leg, wide-eyed.

“Dada sweepin’,” Jongsoo giggled behind a tiny fist.

“Want to give Dada a kiss?”

Jongsoo nodded excitedly, tiptoed, and pressed a chubby kiss onto Changbin’s cheek. The man didn’t budge. Not even a twitch. Hyunjin chuckled under his breath. “Come on, you,” he said softly, scooping Jongsoo into his arms and placing him on the couch beside his sleeping dad. “Keep him company, okay? Appa’s just going to put away the groceries.”

He turned on Disney Jr. on low volume—Jongsoo’s favorite—and padded toward the kitchen. The house smelled like warm sunlight and sleepy dreams. The grocery bags clinked gently as he began putting things away.

Ten minutes passed. Hyunjin was pouring juice into the fridge when he heard a tiny squeal from the living room. Uh oh. He peeked around the corner.

There was Jongsoo—sitting beside Changbin with the most pleased look on his tiny face—holding up a folded bill he had clearly just fished from his dad’s open wallet.

“Appa! LOOK!” he called proudly, wobbling to his feet and waddling toward Hyunjin.
Hyunjin froze.

Jongsoo shoved the bill into his hands with a look that screamed, I have done something amazing. Praise me.

“Wait—where did you get this?” Hyunjin asked, trying not to laugh.

“Dada bag!” Jongsoo replied, pointing directly at the wallet, now resting crookedly beside Changbin’s hip. He didn’t stop to explain. Instead, he turned right around and went back.

Hyunjin clapped a hand over his mouth. “No way,” he whispered.

But yes. Way. Jongsoo was back at it—pulling another bill from the wallet with the care and precision of a seasoned pickpocket. He gasped at his own success, then dashed back to Hyunjin, cheeks round with laughter.

Hyunjin couldn’t hold it anymore. He collapsed into the armchair, shaking with silent laughter, reaching for his phone. “No, no—I need to film this,” he whispered, unlocking it with trembling fingers.

He hit record.

What followed could only be described as a cinematic masterpiece.

Jongsoo, baby con-artist extraordinaire, repeating the heist over and over—giggle, grab bill, present to Appa. Changbin, none the wiser, still out cold in dreamland, completely unaware that his child was slowly draining his wallet. The pile of collected money on the coffee table was growing.

By the sixth round, Hyunjin was wheezing. Tears welled in his eyes as he silently howled with laughter. Jongsoo tripped on a couch pillow mid-run and collapsed in a happy heap at Hyunjin’s feet, still holding the bill like it was his prized sword.

The noise must have finally been too much. Changbin stirred. A groggy grumble left his lips as his eyes fluttered open.

He blinked, confused. “Wha…?”

That’s when he saw it—Jongsoo happily reaching into his wallet again.

Jongsoo?!” Changbin sat up, eyes wide, watching in disbelief as their son squealed with glee and ran toward Hyunjin yet again with another bill.

Hyunjin was fully dying. “You were getting robbed, love.”

“I—he—that’s my money!”

“It was your money.”

“YOU ENABLED HIM,” Changbin cried, lunging toward Jongsoo with exaggerated offense. “You little thief!”

Jongsoo squealed and ran, but Changbin was faster. He scooped him up, tackling him onto the couch with a chorus of tickles and smothering kisses.

“You think you can just rob your old man and get away with it? Huh? Huh?!”

“Appa made me do it!!” Jongsoo squealed, throwing his other dad under the bus. This kid.

“I knew it!” Changbin turned to Hyunjin with betrayal in his eyes. “You’re both menaces.”

Hyunjin was still filming, half-hysterical. “He’s your son too, babe.”

“But he learned it from you!!”

Eventually, the chaos began to slow—tickles becoming lazy cuddles, kisses trailing into giggles, the sunlight softening into golden early-evening hues. Jongsoo was sprawled across Changbin’s lap like a tiny prince, face flushed from laughter, one hand still holding a very crumpled ₩1,000 bill like it was Excalibur.

Changbin looked down at him, brushing a thumb over his chubby cheek.

“Do you even know how dangerous you are?” he murmured.

Jongsoo blinked at him innocently. “I getted money.”

Changbin sighed dramatically, head tilting toward Hyunjin. “You see this? This is who you raised.”

Hyunjin leaned in from his spot beside them on the couch, hair tousled from laughter, lips pulled into the softest smirk. “You’re the one who left your wallet out like bait.”

“I was unconscious!”

“Exactly. Vulnerable. Easy target.”

“You’re saying I got hypnotized and robbed.”

“I’m saying you got hypnotized and robbed by a three-year-old in Crocs and a dino onesie, yes.”

Jongsoo giggled, clearly not understanding anything, but delighted to be included.

Changbin looked between the two of them—his husband, now wiping his eyes from the last wave of laughter, and their son, still holding his last stolen bill like a medal—and he knew. He was gone.

“I’m down so bad,” Changbin muttered.

Hyunjin raised a brow. “Hmm?”

“I said I’m down. Bad. Catastrophic. Like—I’m your personal loser forever. I am so in love with the both of you I think I’d let this kid empty my bank account if he looked at me with those eyes again.”

Jongsoo beamed. “I wuv you, Dada!”

Changbin melted at that and immediately kissed him so hard on the cheek he squealed. “See?! THIS. This is what I’m saying.”

Hyunjin laughed, resting his head against Changbin’s shoulder, hand resting softly on Jongsoo’s back. “You’re whipped.”

“You say that like you’re not. You filmed our son robbing me and let it happen.”

Hyunjin grinned. “I enabled it.”

“You’re worse than him!”

“I’m your husband first.”

“…Okay you win.”

They sat like that for a while, the three of them tangled together on the couch just resting and basking in each other. The sounds from Disney Jr. still paying in the background and the husbands just fondly watch Jongsoo fiddle with the bills as if he's playing with play money.

“You know what I keep thinking?” Changbin said after a while, voice quieter now.

“What?”

“I used to think the best part of my life was when I got to write music for a living. And it is—but then I look at you holding our son, laughing like that… and suddenly, the best part of my life has nothing to do with sound.”

Hyunjin blinked, taken aback by the softness in his tone.

“You’re getting emotional,” He teased gently.

“I always get emotional around you.”

“You big sap.”

“I’m your big sap,” Changbin whispered, pressing a kiss to Hyunjin’s temple making the other smile into his touch.

“You know what?” Hyunjin said, holding up the stack of retrieved bills with a sly smile. “I suddenly have enough money for ice cream.”

Jongsoo gasped. “ICE CWEAM?!”

Changbin groaned. “My own wallet… used against me.”

“You’re coming too,” Hyunjin replied, grabbing his hand. “You’re the ATM and the ride.”

“You’re lucky I’m in love with you.”

Hyunjin leaned over and kissed his cheek. “I know.”
