Work Text:
Nighttime was fast approaching by the time Thaniea was able to return home after a long universal council meeting which felt like it went on for longer than it ever needed to. Now, Thaniea understands why her parents were always so tired every time they escaped from their meeting rooms, she wouldn’t wish that on her worst enemy. Although if that worse enemy turned out to be Hal Nex, or forbid Hex Marrow, maybe they did deserve it.
As Thaniea made her way through her home, she noticed that her wife, Zena, was nowhere to be seen. She hummed to herself as she checked every room, looking for any sight of her. The kids were all out tonight but did Zena go alongside them?
“Hey, princess.” Thaniea’s eyes darted to the sound of a very familiar voice, looking over as Zena stood on the doorway of the backdoor, laying against it as she smiled at Thaniea. “Long day?” Thaniea rolled her eyes, walking towards Zena.
“You have no idea.” Thaniea looked up at Zena, smiling as she grabbed a hold of the door. “What are you doing?” Zena shrugged, offering her hand.
“Well that depends, do you trust me?” Thaniea rolled her eyes.
“Would I have married you if I didn’t?” She pondered out loud, smiling as her hand met with Zena’s, the two hands embracing one another.
“Well, that’s debatable.” Zena’s hand moved back, guiding Thaniea as the two of them escaped into their garden, standing with one another as Zena’s hand gently released Thaniea. “Stay there.” She said, disappearing for a moment before the sound of a melody filled the air and she returned, offering her hand.
For a second, Thaniea laughed, before taking the hand and following in Zena’s movements once more.
For what felt like hours, the two of them just slowly danced with one another, moving to the beat of the song as they held onto each other. Even when the song ended, another would start after it and they continued their embrace.
Finally, it took Thaniea to beat the silence.
“So, are you going to tell me what this is about?” She asked, looking up at her wife who just pressed a kiss to her forehead.
“I wanted for us to have some time together, nobody else, no distractions. I’ve missed you.” Thaniea smiled at her words.
“I’ve missed you too.”
The two of them continued to dance for the rest of the evening, no one could stop them. By the time it was the next morning and their children returned, they were still embracing one another, although they had found their way back inside and onto the sofa as they laid in one another’s arms. And although their youngest may have taken a photo, it did not matter, nothing mattered anymore.
Thaniea didn’t go into work that day, staying home and finally, after what had felt like a lifetime, spent time with the love of her life.
