Chapter Text
Most people wouldn’t go out on a blind date with someone their friend knew from their weird theatre group, especially if that friend was Suzie Toot.
Kori King was not most people.
A bit of background, Kori and Suzie had been friends since middle school, where they bonded over a shared love of drawing. They’d been inseparable ever since. Now in their third year of college, they shared an apartment a short walk from campus. It wasn’t much, but it was theirs.
Naturally, having known Suzie for this long, Kori had grown accustomed to the hurricane of a wingwoman that was Suzanne Toot. Suzie was always on the lookout for potential suitors for Kori. Which isn’t to say that Kori didn’t do the same for Suzie, Suzie just seemed to find a ridiculous amount of joy in it.
So it wasn’t out of the ordinary when Suzie bounced into their apartment on a Tuesday afternoon and proclaimed she’d found someone for Kori.
“Are you sure? Last time you said that I’m pretty sure she tried to recruit me to join her weird salad dressing MLM.” Kori remarked. It was true. It had been a Lululesbian that was way too enthusiastic about her “homebrewed” vinegarettes. Kori didn’t even want to know what kind of psychedelic could’ve been in them. Needless to say, it was a fever dream of a dinner.
Suzie rolled her eyes. “That was a lapse of judgment that won’t happen again. Besides, I actually know this girl this time! She’s in my Musical Theatre club!”
Kori immediately shook her head. “No. No theatre nerds. I already have to deal with you.” Suzie gasped and held a hand to her chest. “Korinne King, I am offended! But, if you MUST know, she’s not in theatre. She’s a film major and she’s working on a project about emotion through movement or something. She’s actually cool, I swear.”
Kori thought for a moment. It had been a while since her last date. What did she really have to lose? Worst case scenario, she had a bad date and never saw this girl again. She sighed. “Ah fuck it, I’m in.”
Suzie fist pumped. “I’ll make a plan with her and let you know!”, she said as she sped to her room. “Wait, don’t I get to know things about her?” Kori shouted after her. “Nope!”
Kori facepalmed with a smile. That girl was weird, but she loved her. She couldn’t’ve asked for a better best friend.
Later that night, Kori was laying in bed scrolling through Instagram when Suzie pushed her door open. Kori looked up at her, noticing her giant grin. Oh, here we go.
“You have a date tomorrow afternoon at 5! You’re gonna meet her at that coffee shop in the library. And I will even walk you there, like the great friend I am.”
Kori set her phone on her chest. “Do I get to know anything about her?” Suzie paused. “Well I told her your name so it’s only fair I tell you hers. Her name is Lydia.”
Kori clapped sarcastically. “I’m so excited.” Suzie narrowed her eyes. “Don’t catch an attitude with me Kori, when this works out you’ll be thanking me in your wedding vows.”
With that, she left and closed the door. Kori sighed and decided just to go to sleep. Tomorrow was going to be interesting, it always was when Suzie was involved.
She felt a small pit of nervous excitement in her stomach, something she normally didn’t before one of these Suzie-organised dates.
She didn’t know why, but she had a feeling this would be one to remember.
