   Summary

   Penelope had never explained to Colin why she refused to write to him on his second tour. She also had never expected him to cut his tour short and show up on her doorstep in the middle of the winter, insisting that she accompany him to Aubrey Hall at his mother's behest so that she and Eloise could repair their friendship before the new season began. She certainly had not expected an abundance of accidents and bad luck to leave them trapped alone at an inn for the foreseeable future.

   But Penelope was resolute in her decision to break free of their so-called friendship. She could make due with her lingering anger at Colin's harsh words the season before and take solace in the fact that Colin, as a beta, wouldn't be ruled by his instincts at the prospect of being trapped with an omega like an alpha would.
