Chapter Text
It was a normal day in Smiling valley, and a certain purple cat was happily sitting on the park bench, just taking in nature.
Suddenly, he feels someone else sit beside him on the bench, glancing over.
It was none other than his best friend, who was closer to him than all the other critters.
“Hi Catnap!”
Dogday says, his tail wagging.
Catnap smiles, waving softly at him.
‘Hey buddy.’ He signs.
Dogday smiles back. “I have something to tell you!” He says.
Catnap tilts his head. ‘What is it?’
Dogday looks excited. “You know the fair that’s happening on Friday?”
Catnap nods.
All the critters had agreed to go together to the traveling fair that was going to be in town at the time, and everyone was looking forward to it.
‘What about it?’ He signs.
Dogday blushes a bit.
“I just wanted to give you a heads up…” He says, anticipating.
“I’m going to confess to you.”
Catnap’s whole face turns pink.
“W-what…?”
Dogday giggles.
“I’m gonna confess my feelings for you.” He repeated. “I wanted to let you know so that you don’t get overwhelmed when I do it.”
Catnap stays still for a moment.
Then, he smiles softly.
‘Thanks for letting me know.’ He says.
Dogday smiles, nodding. “No problem!”
Catnap giggles. ‘However, I think there’s a bit of an issue with your little plan.’
Dogday’s smile fades. “What is it?”
Catnap gently takes Dogday’s hands, looking deeply into his eyes.
“You just did.”
Dogday tilts his head, “Did what?”
Catnap leans in to nose-nuzzle him.
“Confessed.”
Dogday was still confused.
Then… it hits him like a gong.
“OH.”
He says, his whole body going cold.
Catnap bursts out laughing, hugging him.
“Dogday, you stupid-cute mutt!”
He says.
Dogday sighs shakily, hugging back.
“Well, there goes my romantic confession plan…”
He mutters.
Once Catnap stops laughing, he pulls back to look at Dogday.
“It’s okay, sunlight.” He says. “It was still cute.”
Dogday sighs.
“I mean, I had a whole plan, where we could walk around together, and share snacks, and maybe I could win you something at one of the games…”
He looks Catnap in the eye. “And then I was gonna take you on the tunnel of love for the big moment…”
Catnap’s eyes sparkle. “Aww, that sounds so sweet…”
Dogday sighs. “Well, it would have been, if I didn’t blow it by confessing right now…”
Catnap thinks. “Hmm…”
Then he gets an idea.
“Hey, I know!”
He says, gently taking Dogday’s face in his hands.
He smiles softly.
“I’ll just act like I don’t know.”
He says.
Dogday tilts his head. “What do you mean?”
Catnap smiles. “I can pretend like this day never happened, and that I don’t know you’re going to confess to me.” He says. “That way you can confess and it’ll still be a ‘surprise’!”
Dogday smiles.
“You’d really do that for me…?”
Catnap nods.
“I’d do anything for you, my sunlight…”
He whispers softly.
Dogday’s tail wags as he hugs Catnap.
“Thank you so much, kitty!” He says.
Catnap hugs back, purring. “You’re welcome day-day.”
Dogday then giggles softly.
Catnap pulls back. “What’s funny?”
Dogday gently smiles.
“Well, I think I'll feel better confessing, knowing that…”
He gently boops his nose.
“My success is guaranteed.”
Catnap smiles softly, his eyes sparkling with love.
“Can I kiss you now or should we wait until the confession?”
He asks.
Dogday blushes, giggling.
“Hmm… I suppose just one wouldn’t hurt.”
Catnap smiles, and eagerly leans in to press his lips against his future boyfriend’s.
As the two not-quite-yet lovers shared a tender kiss, they were happy, knowing that this Friday was going to be the best day of their lives.
