Prompt March 23rd: "I'd do it again"

Work Text:

“Pen,” Colin greeted, kissing the crown of her head as he walked past her into her apartment, unfazed of her shocked expression.

“Colin? What are you doing here?”

“Bringing you brunch,” he said, holding up a take away bag from his favorite bakery. “You were already gone this morning, so I didn’t get to make you breakfast.”

Penelope felt her face heating up in a way that felt decidedly unhealthy. She couldn’t help the sudden desire to closely inspect the cleanliness of her nails. “Yes, I— I had somewhere to be. And you wouldn’t have had to make me breakfast anyway.”

“Nonsense, we both know you think I’m making the best scrambled eggs — and you’re absolutely correct — but this way you’ll have to settle for the tiramisu from Betty’s.”

Colin continued to talk away while moving around her kitchen with practiced ease to retrieve plates and utensils, but all Penelope could see was herself pressed up against him last night. On the couch while watching Persuasion and later naked in his bed. And now here he was, acting as if all was normal.

“If this is about last night, we can just forget about it. No need for apology tiramisu or whatever this is.”

“Are you sorry about last night?” The hurt in Colin’s eyes caught her off guard.

“No, but—“

“Good, because I’d do it again. I want to do it again.”
