Work Text:

“Colin! How was your—”

Penelope didn’t get to finish asking her boyfriend how his day went. She didn't even get to fully walk into the hallway to greet him. Instead, she felt herself being pressed up against the doorframe, Colin’s tall frame towering over her. One of his hands placed just above her head, he held himself up, his face inches from hers, his eyes dark with want flickering in between her eyes and lips.
Penelope felt her knees going to puddy and her stomach swooping, much like it did back when she first kissed Colin Bridgerton. Her face must have given all of it away, seeing as Colin's confident smirk split into an even more confident grin.

“Oh my god, this is working!” He laughed, but didn’t make an attempt to move away from her.

“What?” she asked, still a bit dazed by his closeness.

“This whole book boyfriend doorframe lean thing. This is seriously doing it for you, isn’t it?”

Penelope took a moment to properly take in their position. “You practiced the doorframe lean!”

“Yes, well, you sent me like a million tiktoks of guys doing it. I can take a hint, you know,” he smiled smugly.

“Is that so, Mr. I would never dream of dating Penelope Featherington?”

Instead of defending his stupid past self, he opted for the magic words instead:
“So, fancy a trip to the bookstore?”
