Summary
There’s a saying about grief, about how… unlinear it is. How it’s not something easy, that it doesn’t go in one swift move. Grief, as Eddie comes to find out, has a way of creeping back in whenever it needs to. Regardless if he wants it, regardless if he even has time for it, grief does not care. Grief will sneak in, it will glue him to his bed and stop him from getting on with his day. Grief will make the food he loves taste like ash, suddenly, even in the middle of a meal he was enjoying until that particular bite that somehow turned into mold, creeping into his gums and staining his tongue, spoiling the taste buds on it and ruining the rest of the night as he tries his hardest to clean it off. If it’s not with toothpaste, he’ll use mouthwash like it’s shots and he’ll even go as far as taking straight vodka just to rinse out - or try, really - the remaining taste of whatever rot in his mouth.
There’s no coming out of it. Trust him, he tried.
OR : two years after Buck dies, Eddie believes he’s through with the worst of his grief. Until one night, while Christopher is away, Eddie wakes up to the hot, very alive, pressing body of nobody else but Evan Buckley.
