“Happy April Fools, Hyung-nim!”

A pair of hands wrap around a firm waist. However, contrary to the reaction that Tang Bo originally expected to see, Cheong Myeong only glanced at him lazily, not very bothered about what he was doing. Even though it was clearly not…anything they would usually do.

Ah…no way…

Could it be that this person already anticipated that Tang Bo would be attempting to pull something weird to him during April 1st?

He felt a bit disappointed, but Tang Bo did not withdraw. Instead, he insisted on keeping up the act, smiling sweetly at the man wrapped into his arms.

“Today, do you want to go buy something at a café?”

It was a good thing that he already planned how the day would go, so even when there's a slight hitch in his plans, he could still keep going. Tang Bo mentally patted himself in the back. Well done!

Surprisingly enough, Cheong Myeong leaned against him, his face shockingly unfazed.

“The café you're probably planning to go to is closed for today.”

His mind went blank.

No, there are just too many things happening at once that Tang Bo didn't know where to focus. First of all, why was his Hyung-nim being so nonchalant about what he was doing, as if they've been in this position so many times in the past?! Secondly, how did he know which café he was talking about? How did he know it was closed? Did he visit early this morning?

Huh? But that doesn't make sense! If he visited early in the morning, then it will obviously still be closed! No one would be willing to wake up even before the sun has risen, right…?

He reigned in his thoughts and quickly tried to bounce back. Hurry! Think of something, or else, this little prank he was attempting to do will fail miserably!

“Then,” he said thoughtfully. “Do you want to go to the park?”

Cheong Myeong thought for a moment, before answering.

“Okay.”

So it was planned just like that.

The trip was actually short, since it was within walking distance. They only crossed a few streets and finally arrived in the public space.

Actually, there's not much to do in the park. If he had gone to a different café, they could at least eat some food while chatting with each other. But like this, there was nothing to occupy their hands with! They were just sitting next to each other on the bench, staring at the people who would pass by once in a while who wouldn't even notice their presence.

Tang Bo, who was animatedly telling a story about his family, paused for a while when inspiration suddenly struck.

“Hyung-nim,” he suddenly said, straightening up. Then, he leans forward slightly, being unnecessarily close. “Let's play a game.”

Cheong Myeong didn't move away from him, which confused him even more and made his stomach flutter weirdly. He just stared at Tang Bo wordlessly for some time.

Hyung-nim! What's with you today, being so off? Although Tang Bo was the one trying to mess with him, it seems like the situation was being flipped the other way, and it was Cheong Myeong who was successfully messing with his head!

“What game?”

Finally! An answer!

“Let's take turns saying things we know about each other,” he proposes. “There should be a hundred. Whoever gets to say the most wins.”

An eyebrow quirked up.

“What happens if you win?”

“You'd find out after,” he smugly answers.

He waited for Cheong Myeong to accept the idea. However, a different matter was brought up altogether.

“Bo-yah, are you being ridiculous acting clingy because it's April Fools?”

Oh. He got called out…

“I don't know what you're talking about,” he says.

“It's April Fools, not Valentines Day.”

“As I said, I don't know what you're saying! Anyway, anyway! Do you accept, or not?”

Cheong Myeong didn't look very convinced with his attempt. But still, he sighed and shook his head, as if tired even before they have started with the game.

What's he sighing like an old man for? Tang Bo smiled fondly inside his mind, an attempt to ignore the fluttering feeling of nervousness in his stomach. If the situation went right, then he would definitely be able to pull this off perfectly.

“Fine,” the older man relented.

“Alright! I'll go first. I know that Hyung-nim likes sweets.”

“That's obvious,” Cheong Myeong grumbled. Everyone who knows him was definitely aware of this fact. Then, he shook his head and offered one fact about Tang Bo as well.

“You like kids.”

“That's obvious too! You've seen me with Ah-Pyung,” Tang Bo quickly shot back, smiling. “You like alcohol.”

“Are we just going to list things the other person likes?”

“Of course not, but this is the easiest.”

“...” Cheong Myeong paused for a moment. “You like to smoke a lot.”

“Your older brother will never give you more money than you'd need for the day.”

“When you were a kid, you punched your cousin’s stomach because he pissed you off.”

Tang Bo laughed out loud at that memory. “That was a good one. On the topic of fighting with relatives, you once fought with Cheong Jin long enough for one of his teeth to come off.”

It brought back memories of an angry Cheong Jin complaining to their older brother. Tang Bo thought this was funny when he first heard the story, so he just had to mention it first.

“Your uncle once took your rabbit and roasted it over the fire.”

“Hey!” Tang Bo immediately protested. “You didn't have to remind me of that! Tsk, but those Sichuan people, really…”

“You're a Sichuan bastard as well.”

“Of course, Hyung-nim is right.”

They went on trading facts about each other back and forth. However, around the 60th mark, they were already running out of things to say. In fact, even reaching that number was already impressive. It would be difficult to find a duo who knows each other so well and be able to list facts about the other so quickly.

Tang Bo, confident that he had more things to say about his opponent, gestured carelessly to the other person.

Then, he heard something he didn't expect.

“The password to your wifi at home is 1234youidiotmoron no space in between, with the numbers being digits.”

“...”

In an instant, the brunette was made speechless.

“How did you know that?”

He never told anyone that, since he changed the password. There was a time when the wifi was extremely slow that he made sure no one else would be able to connect to it. Although he would definitely tell Cheong Myeong what it was if he ever asked, he was pretty sure that he didn't say anything about it yet.

Cheong Myeong didn't look at him, just kept his gaze ahead.

“You told me before.”

“Oh,” Tang abo fell quiet, feeling a bit awkward. “Is that so? I forgot.”

“Of course you did. Now, give me another fact about myself.’

“When you were six…”

There were definitely times when he got shocked because Cheong Myeong would say things he didn't know he told the other person before. At some point, it was really getting difficult listing down more things.

At the 84th fact, Tang Bo hesitates and says, “I know you miss your ducklings sometimes.”

“Those brats who follow me around? Not really,’ Cheong Myeong denies, but didn't bother to justify himself and just moved on with the conversation. “During childhood, you could never sleep if the lights were fully off.”

“Bringing out the embarrassing parts about me, huh?”

“That's right.”

“Hmph! Well, because you want it to be like this…”

There were definitely times when he got shocked because Cheong Myeong would say things he didn't know he told the other person before. At some point, it was really getting difficult listing down more things.

At the 95th fact, Tang Bo had finally ran out of things to say, but Cheong Myeong looked like he still had plenty more on his list. But how could that be? He thought that he, with how much he'd observed this person, would definitely be the winner of their little game!

He slumped forward in defeat.

“I give up. Hey, Hyung, since I can't think of more to say, can you give me one fact about yourself?”

Cheong Myeong didn't respond for a while.

…Huh. How many times has it been today when this guy is awfully quiet? It was so strange that he vaguely felt that something was wrong.

“...Hyung?”

“... I'll tell you one tomorrow.”

“What?” A look of confusion came over to him. “Tomorrow? Why? Aren't we playing the game now?”

“Tomorrow,” Cheong Myeong insisted.

“Yah, I get it! You're trying to be more mysterious than me as a prank. Damn, okay, you're definitely succeeding, so enough!”

“I'll tell you tomorrow,” the other person answered instead. “So no matter what, I have to see you tomorrow. Understand?”

The brunette blinked in surprise, not expecting the seriousness of the other person's tone.

As someone constantly with Cheong Myeong, he was unused to seeing him this deathly serious.

“Okay, I will,” Tang Bo assures. Then, he changes the subject. “But how do you know so many facts about me, Hyung-nim? Don't tell me…have you been observing me creepily all the time since we knew each other?!”

He put a hand over his chest and pretended to look shocked. However, Cheong Myeong only rolled his eyes and muttered to himself.

“You told me those things yourself.”

“Oh, is that so?” Tang Bo laughed. “My memory must be going bad. Still, I'm happy Hyung-nim remembers!”

15.

“Happy April Fools, Hyung-nim!”

A pair of hands wrap around a firm waist.

“Hyung-nim,” he suddenly said, straightening up. Then, he leans forward slightly, being unnecessarily close. “Let's play a game.”

Cheong Myeong tensed at the sudden proximity, just as he had when Tang Bo first appeared in front of him that day, being clingy. Seeing this, he felt a little smug, knowing that he was obviously making the other party feel odd.

Just as he wanted to do for today!

His hands suddenly felt a little clammy as he thought about the plan that he was going to do.

“What game?”

“...I’m out of facts now.”

Tang Bo let out an exaggerated gasp.

No, how could my Hyung-nim know so little about me? Aren't they just at the twenties mark? Tang Bo felt like he could go on for forever!

“Is that true?”

“Yes. Now, tell me one thing about yourself.”

“Huh?” Tang Bo was confused. “You're supposed to be the one saying facts you know about me…Oh, I understand! It's so you have more things to say when we play this game next!”

“... That's right.”

“Hm…Let me think…Yes, I'll tell you the password to my wifi at home!”

“You changed it?”

“Yes.”

37.

“Happy April Fools, Hyung-nim!”

“Happy April Fools, Hyung-nim!”

63.

14.

“Happy April Fools, Hyung-nim!”

“How'd you know?”

“...You already told me this before.”

98.

“Tomorrow, I absolutely have to see you.”

“Haha, Hyung-nim, you already miss me that quickly?”

“It's still the twelfth fact! Hyung-nim, what's wrong? Why are you staring at me all dazed like this?”

No, in fact, Cheong Myeong has been acting really strange since they met up that day. He looked pale and shocked, staring at Tang Bo like he was looking at a ghost. Honestly, it was a little scary.

For a moment, Tang Bo wondered if his timing was wrong.

Hands suddenly reached out to touch his face. The brunette flinched in surprise, not expecting the sudden action.

“Hyung?” He called worriedly. “What's wrong? If you're not feeling okay, we can go back.”

“No.”

“...Yes?” He asked, smiling in confusion. “What do you mean? Did something happen?”

“...Don't go.”

Huh?

No, something did happen! Tang Bo was already confused when this person overreacted when he touched him earlier! Why was his tone suddenly like…

He gulped, feeling something heavy in his chest.

It made him feel bad as well. Something was bothering Cheong Myeong, and the heaviness of his voice shows that it was nothing trivial. He hated the fact that he can't figure out what it was.

“Okay,” he reassured. “I won't go.”

There was a sound of relief.

“Good.”

111.

“Happy April Fools, Hyung-nim!”

“I just want to see you tomorrow.”

“It's not like I'm going anywhere, though?”

There was the sound of a tired laugh.

71.

“How many times are you going to lie to me, you unreliable brat?”

“What?” Tang Bo sounded offended and baffled at the same time. “I'm not lying! Hyung-nim, I'd tell you if I would be late tomorrow, but I really will come, okay! I promise! It's a promise!”

“...Whatever.”

“Ah? You don't believe me?”

1.

“Happy April Fools, Hyung-nim!”

A pair of arms wrap around a firm waist. Tang Bo laughed inside his head as the other person jumped in surprise, then struggled free from his hold to scowl at him and hit him over the head.

“Yah! What was that for!”

He laughed heartily, feeling amused by the reaction.

“It's April Fools! April Fools!”

“What kind of…Are you pulling a prank?!” Chung Myung accused, his eyes narrowing.

“That's right. In fact, I'm planning on being aaaaall lovey-dovey with you today to mess with anyone who might see us! I need them to think we're dating!”

He sees plum colored eyes roll in annoyance.

“What a stupid thing to do.”

“It's not stupid!” Tang Bo defended.

Actually, that was not the full reason why he was insisting to do this. His plan for the day was to lull Cheong Myeong to a false sense of security, making him think that what he was doing was really for the sake of April Fools. And then when the day is over…

“Hey, Hyung-nim,” he changed the subject. “Do you want to go to a café?”

“You're really going along with this enthusiastically,” Cheong Myeong grumbled. He wasn't a fool, he knew that cafés are usually one of the most common places that couples go to for dates.

“That's right. Oh, it's my treat. I heard that this place I know makes really good sweets! Don't you want to try it at least once?”

“...Fine.”

There was reluctance in that tone. Cheong Myeong may be hesitant to go along with Tang Bo’s funny act, but he wasn't one to turn down both free food and sweets. There were just too many good things about it that it was impossible to resist.

Tang Bo linked an arm with him and dragged him along to the direction of the cafe, looking like he was in a good mood. However, this was quickly doused when they ended up just outside the door, a sign in massive letter that read ‘CLOSED’ greeting them first.

“...”

“It's not open today,” Cheong Myeong said, lips twitching upward as he found it funny how the other person just deflated.

But how could this be?! Why would the café be closed during a special day like this?! Shouldn't they be working because there would be more customers today?!

Still, there was no way to protest. Tang Bo cursed his misfortune and tried to salvage the situation instead.

“Then, do you want to go to the park?”

“The park?” An eyebrow rose. “What are we going to do there?”

“Sightseeing?”

There was a snort. “I look at people everyday. You really ran out of ideas, huh?”

“No, no! It will really be fun!” Tang Bo insisted. Actually, he didn't know what exactly couples do, so he was just going with his instincts.

“Okay, fine.”

So they went to the park.

There was a good number of people there spending time with each other. It was also a good thing that it was a little cloudy, so the sun doesn't hurt on the skin. The two men found a bench to occupy, plopping down next to each other in silence and just watching everything happen.

Then, Tang Bo said, “Hyung-nim, let's play a game.”

“Huh?” Cheong Myeong looked over to him quizzically. “What game?”

“Let's take turns saying things we know about each other,” he proposes. “There should be a hundred. Whoever gets to say the most wins.”

The other person snorts in amusement. “How useless. Think of something else to do.”

“Really? You don't want to?” Tang Bo fell into deep thought, thinking about what he should do now. Then, he lit up as an answer came to mind.

He stood up so suddenly.

“Wait here.”

“Huh?” Cheong Myeong, who didn't expect the suddenness of those actions, had his mouth open slightly. “What…okay?”

Without even properly waiting for his reply, Tang Bo ran off so quickly towards a certain direction. However, he didn't go so far that he won't be seen anymore. Instead, Cheong Myeong saw him head straight to an ice cream truck, which he already noticed when they first arrived here.

“This guy…” Cheong Myeong shook his head, feeling a little funny.

Tang Bo returned quickly afterwards, holding two cones of ice cream, which he handed to his companion. Cheong Myeong took it without much protest, humming in satisfaction.

Because there wasn't much to do in a park if they just sat there, the duo quickly finished their ice cream and went to the slides and monkey bars. There were already kids playing there, but so what?

In the end, the kids had to wait for them to finish while two overgrown played around more than the kids have.

The only reason they went away running was because one of the mothers of the kid there came over to them, looking absolutely livid. Her son was wailing loudly next to her, saying something about not being able to play because of them. Tang Bo and Cheong Myeong left and went as far away as possible when this happened, laughing loudly amongst themselves.

By the time the sun was already starting to set, Cheong Myeong considered leaving and going back. He always leave at this hour, because he wanted to spend some time with both of his brothers. Also, the last time he came home late, he was almost locked out of the door.

“Then, I will be going now.”

“Wait.”

The sudden call from Tang Bo made him pause.

The other person looked nervous this time, like he was finally going to say something he was holding back for the past few hours. He fidgeted slightly, but wore a forced confidence on his face.

“Hyung-nim, I like you,” he confessed. “Do you want to go out with me?”

“...”

Cheong Myeong, stunned by the sudden confession, found himself rooted in the ground.

“...What?” He finally got out. “Are…Hey, is this your April Fools prank?”

Suddenly, Tang Bo's face morphed into something smug.

“Happy April Fools!”

“...” The urge to hit him came back twice as hard. “I'm going to beat you up!”

“Wait, wait! No, I wasn't joking! I really am asking!”

“Quit it!”

“Hyung!!! Don't you believe me?” Tang Bo pouted, looking wronged. Then, he paused, looking thoughtful.

Cheong Myeong suddenly had a bad feeling…

“I guess I have to prove my sincerity?”

Without warning, he walked up to the other man and…

When he withdrew his face away, he looked a little embarrassed and expectant. Tang Bo looked hesitant at the older man, smiling shakily.

“There. Believe me yet?”

Cheong Myeong was stunned into silence.

What? What?

Did that guy just kiss him?

“Well, anyway, it's fine,” Tang Bo laughed, waving an arm. “You're still processing it, I understand. You can tell me your answer tomorrow.”

“...Tomorrow?” His words were finally working.

“That's right. I'll see you again tomorrow. Didn't you say you have to go home now?”

Tang Bo seemed to not be as nervous anymore, and this was because Cheong Myeong didn't push him away when he kissed him. So he had a feeling that he had a chance.

“See you, Hyung-nim.”

“...” Cheong Myeong stood there for a while, then closed his mouth at last.

“Okay,” he exhaled. “I'll give you an answer tomorrow.”

150.

Looking at the calendar, it was April 1st again for the one hundred and fiftieth time.

Cheong Myeong stared blankly at it, enough that his older brother had to glance his way and ask him if anything was wrong. Still, he was unable to say anything.

It is April 1st again, for who knows how many times.

The day before Tang Bo dies.
