i love you. why is that so hard for you to understand?

Summary:

“I mean… I would like to be your boyfriend.”

“Come on, Aniki! Pfft, what are you even talking about right now? Pleasee. Don’t be ridiculous. You’re already my boyfriend! Aren’t you a male and my friend? So that makes you my boy-friend, haha!”

“N-No… Your lover… As in your lover… I would like to be your lover.”

“Lover? Do you prefer that more? Sure, we can do that! Is that another term for friend?! That’s so cool. Wow, Aniki, you really are a genius…”

“You’ve gotta be kidding me right now…”

OR:

Ayato confesses to Itto, except it’s not as simple as it sounds.

Work Text:

It’s not like Ayato to fall for someone but everything just changed after he met Itto.

There have been many women all over Ayato. Even tried to get into his pants, too. He received plenty of arranged marriage offers, as well. Though he turned down every attempt. He thinks it’s useless to be with someone he doesn’t have any interest in.

Besides, Ayato has always known people only care about his status and are after his money. Itto, however, came into his life and surprised him in ways no one ever did. He was the first person to treat him differently. Sure, Ayato has Ayaka and Thoma. But that’s his sister and his best friend. Whom he already considers as a family, including Thoma, too. While Itto? Itto was just a random stranger Ayato met. This man doesn’t even have any idea about his status nor the fact that he’s rich yet Itto still sees him as a friend. It all started just because he joined the onikabuto battle with Itto.

And Ayato has fun whenever he plays onikabuto with Itto. It always helps him to relieve the stress from work. Simply, Itto makes him happy. He can’t help but fall for him.

So with that said, Ayato wants to ask Itto out.

“Go out with me,” Ayato does just that, sitting next to Itto. Itto is hanging around Ayato’s place yet again.

“What?” Itto asks as he cranes his head to Ayato before giving him the answer: “Oh, yeah, sure! Why not! I should be free this Saturday!”

The answer has Ayato craning his head to Itto this time. He blinks his eyes in confusion. Yeah, he may have looked cool about it, he never really let his vulnerability be shown, after all, but deep down, he was nervous. He was indeed worried about Itto rejecting him as he did to those women only for Itto to agree with it immediately. Is he dreaming? He didn’t think it would be that easy. Perhaps he was overthinking it.

“Perfect. Then Saturday it is,” Ayato concludes, unable to help the smile of joy on his face.

When that day finally arrives, Ayato has no idea why there’s the rest of the Arataki gang joining Itto.

“So, tell me, what are they even doing here?” Ayato genuinely wonders.

“Oh, well, what do they say? The more the merrier, right?!” Itto explains proudly as he crosses his arms with a laugh that comes after.

Hearing that, Ayato just doesn’t know what to say anymore. Itto has no idea that this was supposed to be a date! Meanwhile, Shinobu is there behind Itto as she stares at him with the kind of look “That’s right.”. Though Ayato knows she’s just trying to protect Itto from him. She’s always been protective of her boss like that. Then again, Ayato understands where she is coming from. It’s not like he’s any different when it comes to Itto. Itto is precious.

“Yeah, sure…” Ayato can only go along with it. He’s really upset about it, though.

But Ayato doesn’t just give up there. He tries again after he failed with the first attempt, thinking that perhaps he just wasn’t clear before. This time, he will make sure Itto gets it.

“I would like to take you out,” Ayato gives it another go.

“Okay,” and again, Itto just easily agrees with it as he did the last time.

It turns out Itto thought Ayato was inviting him to an onikabuto battle. He worded that wrong.

“That’s not what I—”

“I’ll make sure I win this time! I won’t lose to you ever again, Aniki!” Itto interrupts.

“...”

Though Ayato still doesn’t give up. He never does. It doesn’t matter how long it would take. There’s no one that he wants but Itto. Hence, he’s willing to try again and again and again until he finally gets Itto. He just wants Itto so bad.

Apparently, showering Itto with gifts doesn’t work, either. All Ayato gets from Itto is, “Wow, thanks, Aniki. I don’t know why you’re giving these to me, these stuff look expensive as shit. Really appreciate it, though. But don’t worry, I promise you I’ll treasure them for the rest of my life. You can trust me on that,” and Ayato only forces himself to smile at the reaction as he deals with the heartache.

That’s it. Perhaps Ayato should just get straight to the point. Well, he knows there’s practically nothing straight about him. But he really should just tell Itto that he loves him. No more hiding around the bush. With this, he hopes it would settle things once and for all.

“I love you, Itto.”

“I love you, too, Aniki.”

“Really?”

“Yeah, you’re my bro.”

“Just that…? A… bro?

“Yeah, what else other than my bro? You’re the best bro ever!”

“I mean… I would like to be your boyfriend.”

“Come on, Aniki! Pfft, what are you even talking about right now? Pleasee. Don’t be ridiculous. You’re already my boyfriend! Aren’t you a male and my friend? So that makes you my boy-friend, haha!”

“N-No… Your lover… As in your lover… I would like to be your lover.”

“Lover? Do you prefer that more? Sure, we can do that! Is that another term for friend?! That’s so cool. Wow, Aniki, you really are a genius…”

“You’ve gotta be kidding me right now…”

Of all the times Ayato has been stressed out because of work, he could’ve sworn he has never been as stressed out as he is right now because of Itto. He sits on his desk with a headache, pinching his forehead. Though he wouldn’t call Itto an idiot. Itto is just… special. Perhaps it’s wrong for him to ask Itto out in the first place. Perhaps it would be better if he just kept quiet. Perhaps that is for the best.

Just as the thought begins to take over Ayato, fortunately, he has his family by his side.

“Haha, hang in there, Onii-sama,” Ayaka cheers as she pats Ayato’s back.

“Waka, don’t give up!” Thoma joins, making a fist enthusiastically.

That’s enough to get Ayato back to his feet. Yeah, he can’t just stop. Because all he wants is Itto and he’s probably doing it wrong this whole time. But he’s not going to mess up again.

“I love you,” Ayato tells Itto the three words once more.

“I love you, too. A bro should love his bro. That’s what true bros are,” Itto replies.

But unlike last time, Ayato isn’t going to repeat the same mistake as he did before. “No, what I mean by that is, I love you, Itto. I truly love you. I would like to travel my hands all over your body, I would like to press my lips against yours, I would like to know how you taste, I would like to make love to you every night, I would like to know how amazing you feel as you did when I touched myself to you and thought about you, I would like to leave my marks on you so I could claim you as mine, I would like to marry you and have a family with you someday,” he admits shamelessly.

A blush of embarrassment spreads across Itto’s cheeks upon the clarification. “W-What?”

On the other hand, Ayato merely smiles at Itto. “That’s what I meant all of this time.”

“No way…” Itto falters.

“Itto—” Ayato calls out as he begins to see Itto taking a few steps back from him.

At first, Ayato thought that would be the end of it. He was wrong. Itto ended up… running away from him.

Damn it.

Is love supposed to be this hard?

Since then, Itto has been avoiding Ayato and every time they come across each other, Itto would be running away from Ayato so fast before he could even have the chance to talk to him. He can’t deny it hurts until he has enough, pinning Itto against the wall. Itto can no longer go anywhere.

“You’re done running away, Itto,” Ayato scowls. To be honest, he’s a bit annoyed. No one has ever tested his patience as much as Itto did.

“I… Uh… Haha. Huh. Who was running away? You’re so funny, Aniki. Nobody’s running away,” Itto denies awkwardly, sweat on his face.

“I just. I just need you to give me an answer. If you can’t return my feelings, I’ll leave. I’m sorry. You may be fine with it, but I’m not. I don’t want to be just friends,” Ayato bites out.

Suddenly, tears fall down Itto’s face and Ayato widens his eyes in surprise at the sight. He didn’t mean to make him cry. “You’re a fucking asshole, you know that?! Why do you have to put it like that?! I wouldn’t want you to go anywhere! What do you mean you will leave?! I don’t want to lose you! I mean, how was I supposed to face you after that, right?! I just didn’t know what to do! Of course I love you, too…”

Being scolded by Itto isn’t something Ayato would’ve expected but he supposes he should’ve seen it coming for he deserves it. He was indeed an asshole just now. And so, he travels his hands to wipe the tears he has caused Itto away.

“Ah, you’re really driving me insane,” Ayato murmurs with his hands on Itto’s cheeks as he has their forehead touched. “Sorry, Itto, I just can’t hold back anymore.”

“What?”

The question is answered with a kiss. Ayato finds himself getting hard while they’re at it and he pulls away, gritting his teeth as he tries to control himself.

“I need to stop here. I would like to make our first night special. We’re in a public space right now and I love you too much to just take you in a place like this,” Ayato manages, gazing into Itto’s eyes.

Another blush of embarrassment spreads across Itto’s cheeks, except it looks more intense than before.

“Haha, how cute,” Ayato comments, amused. He soon pulls Itto in his embrace. “And you’re mine now.”

“Y-Yeah…” Itto agrees shyly.

“We should go on a date again this Saturday. Also no more bringing the Arataki gang along with you. Just the two of us. Got it?” Ayato whispers into Itto’s ear accompanied by a threatening smile across his lips which prompts Itto to shriek in fear, as if he can feel it.

Eeek, okay!”

“Good.”

Finally, after so, so many attempts, Ayato succeeded…
