Cooks from hell

Summary:

Liz wants to learn how to cook but Meliodas is always getting in her way.

Work Text:

„I said no!“, she yelled.

Cooking was always comparable to hell in the small hut in Danafor. Liz never actually learned how to cook and started teaching herself when she moved in with Meliodas. Making him happy with home-made cooking was one reason, the other was survival. Eating oversalted potatoes or a bit too crispy roasted meat was one thing, having to fight with your meal was a completely different thing though and Liz had to give it her best to keep her lover from touching any cooking utensils.

“Liz, even I can stir a soup”, Meliodas assured her.

“You said you could put the cut vegetables into the pot too, so HOW exactly did the raw octopus get in there and WHY are the vegetables still where they were before?? I said no and I mean it!”

She buried her face in the recipe Barzad’s wife gave her the day before. This was a soup. She could do it if she followed the recipe, she was sure of it. If she just followed the… Blond unkempt hair kept her from reading any further and even though she couldn’t see anything except blond she felt Meliodas grab the recipe and hastily tightened her own grip around it to make sure he couldn’t take it away.

*rip*

She pretended she didn’t hear that.

She also pretended she didn’t hear Meliodas’ “uh oh” when the piece of paper he let go off drowned in the soup.

It was okay. Who needed a recipe anyway, she read it and she vaguely knows what to do. It’s only a soup, it couldn’t be that hard right? All she had to do was add a few vegetables, some spices and herbs and keep Meliodas from doing anything. Yeah.
That turned out to be more difficult than she imagined because he always tried to “fix” things he thought she did wrong.
He spouted nonsensical advice and insisted on handing her ingredients. He hindered her whereever he could. In short, he was driving her crazy.

Meliodas knew he was annoying her. He knew he was bad at cooking and he didn’t believe in even one of his own advices. But seeing her get angry made him smile. Her liveliness was one of the things he loved most about her and drawing that out to its fullest was his self-proclaimed job.

Of course she ended up ruining the soup, he knew, she knew and Wandle, who snacked on the soup certainly knew too. Liz wanted to give in and ask their neighbors for something edible but before she could toss it away Meliodas took a big scoop of soup and gulped it down in one go.
She looked at him in horror, expecting him to keel over like Wandle did but he didn’t. And he showed her the smile she loved so much.
“One more portion, master chef”, he said grinning.
“You’re crazy”, she answered, pouring more soup into his bowl.
“Maybe. Man, this soup tastes horrible!”
Liz burst into laughter. His smile turned into the weirdest grimasses whenever he started eating again. He fought his way through the whole pot and she was shaking with laughter. She fell in love with such a weirdo!

There it was again - her gorgeous smile.
It’s true what they say after all: You can only gain something if you sacrifice something first.

“Waaah, your face is turning green!!”, was the last thing Meliodas heard.
