Bakugou Katsuki is not stupid.
It’s obvious of course, he always gets 100% marks in class, and he knows the extras of his class like to over compliment him for brownie points or something, he is pretty sure the teachers always puts him on a pedal stole for the chance of him thanking them when he becomes a hero and honors those who helped him or whatever.
Anyways, because Katsuki is not stupid, he knows Deku is (and he would never say this out loud to anyone) terrifying.
Deku had strategies to take down the number 2 hero when he was 5, Katsuki remembers that vividly.
The nerd had ways for Katsuki to take down All Might in 10 minutes, by the age of 7, he gave the idea to him as a gift, for the hopes for Katsuki to be his friend, it was stupid.
So with this, Katsuki was smart enough to know that if Deku wanted to be a hero, he would, even if he was quirkless, and that would be bad for Katsuki.
Because Katsuki is supposed to have a story, one where he went from a shitty middle school to the number one hero, one that anyone would see and be really impressed with, and, if Deku enters Yuuei, then he won’t be the first student from Aldera there, and he will be just one more, and the stupid nerd will be praised for coming on top without the need of a power.
So Katsuki made sure that any hope the nerd had of even trying was exploded away, and turned into dust, because he has to be the best, and he will, he will make sure the nerd gives up.
Yet.
Yet the nerd always hoped, always tried, and he never stopped, well until that sludge incident, the nerd finally stopped, he didn’t deny that he couldn’t be a hero anymore, he didn’t put the idea on the class projects anymore.
So Katsuki can be even more sure Deku will be a pebble and won’t be his problem anymore.
Anyways, Katsuki finds himself walking through the neighborhood, after he joined the extras in the arcade, calmly walking back home, today he opted to take a different route, it unfortunately passed through Dagobah beach, the trash beach of Musutafu.
The beach was used as a garbage disposal by the locals, for some reason there are rumors it is shortening in size, but looking at it, Katsuki couldn’t see-
Wait.
Wait, wait waitwaitwait.
He knows that mop of hair, Why was Deku here?? The hell is he on a beach, is he- is the nerd cleaning it? Wait… Is Deku training??? Oh no he won’t, the nerd is supposed to-
While monologuing in his head, Katsuki failed to notice the green haired boy taking something, and he only started noticing when there was a thunk from the things that fell from up the trash mountain as Izuku took one of the things from there.
When Katsuki looked up from where he hadn’t noticed he started glaring at the ground, he choked on his spit at the sight of the smaller teen casually caring a enormous fucking fridge, he froze, standing still, all thoughts halted.
A yell came from the beach, specifically the green haired kid, “HA! SEE THAT ALL MIGHT? YOU WANT REALISTIC, I’LL SHOW YOU REALISTIC”
Katsuki trance was broken, he paled and his thoughts started blasting at his head Oh no oh fuck oh my All Might this is the moment he died, Deku probably knows he is here, hes going to kill me oh fuck.
Katsuki was going to die he has to run, he can already see it, “Bakugou Katsuki, 21xx, Tragically killed by unknown character with a fridge, he will be missed” It was beautiful, really, from bully to victim of fridge, “Bakugou Katsuki, Aldera’s prodigy, future number 1 hero, found in a trash beach, killed by his bully victim with a fridge”
He couldn’t die, he needed to find a way to run, this couldn’t be it, he wasn’t ready, he needed to hide, maybe never come back to the school, or ignore the nerd until Yuuei and hope for the best, better a coward than dead.
So he did, he backed away as quietly as he could, never tuning his back on the nerd until he turned a corner and then he ran, not looking back, he only took a breath again when he was in his house, with the door looked shut, then he started breathing normally when he was in his room with everything locked.
And for the next months until Yuuei he stopped making fun of the nerd, he didn’t even call him Deku anymore, everyone thought he was trying to get his record clean, then they saw him bullying others and were just confused.
Everytime he could see the green haired boy he stayed tracking his movements, everytime he couldn’t he looked around paranoid.
Teachers and students alike wondered what happened to him for his change of heart, he still bullied the other kids, but anytime the nerd was there, he stopped, not too obviously, he couldn’t be weak, but still stopped.
Again, better a coward than dead, he remembers his ex-friends notes about his quirk, and he also still wanted his arms well and not ripped out of his body.
Katsuki just hoped Yuuei wouldn’t accept a quirkless loser, and he would finally be free.
