Chapter Text
It all started when Wednesday didn’t show up in the dorm after classes. This wasn’t out of the ordinary, though the raven would normally change out of her uniform and complete her writing hour before going on any of her…….adventures.
Maybe she just had a strong lead Enid thought as she took advantage of her alone time to turn up the volume of her speaker.
Enid began to worry when she came outside for dinner and there was still no sign of her roommate. The quad was nearly silent, only the soft chatter from the few students who chose to eat outside during the cold winter could be heard. Enid’s group sat in the center of the pentagon by the edge of the almost frozen fountain. Even weirder was the fact Eugene and Pugsley were sitting at the table without Wednesday, they almost never went anywhere without her.
“Has anyone seen Wednes?” Enid finally asked.
“She went somewhere in the woods by Crackstone’s crypt after our Hummers meeting. She nearly scared the daylights out of me the way she was acting.” Eugene replied.
“The way she was acting?” Divian questioned.
“Yeah, she was really out of it.”
“She has a migraine.” Pugsley added. Enid liked having him around. He was a nice kid and he knew Wednesday like the back of his hand, a useful skill when dealing with the seemingly emotionless girl.
“I didn’t know Addams got migraines.” Xavier commented.
“Yeah and if you do what’s good for the people you’ll continue to not know.” Pugsley joked. “She’ll kill me if she finds out I told you, she hates looking weak or being pitted, but they’re a side effect from the visions.”
Enid’s heart sank, she hated the woods after everything that happened with Tyler and knowing Wednesday wasn’t feeling well and alone made her more than uneasy. Wednesday was important to her, she couldn’t bear seeing her hurt again. Most people called this protective, fluttering, feeling, love but Enid was smarter than to expect that from “The Heartless Hero of Nevermore” so she just called it close friendship.
“I’ll go find her!” Enid announced as she all but slammed her tray of grilled cheese on the frost covered tabletop.
“You want someone to go with you, Pup?” Yoko asked.
The blonde thought about it for a moment; too many people might overwhelm Wednesday and if something were to happen it’s better for two people to get hurt then the whole table.
“No, I'll be okay!” Enid reassured as she ran towards Crackstone’s crypt.
“Wednesday! Wednesday!” The young wolf yelled as she walked through the frigid woods, observing every tree and bush for her friend. Suddenly she felt her body plummeting as she fell on top of a thick tree branch.
“What the…” Enid breathed as she glimpsed up at the tree she had just tripped over. It was a beautiful weeping willow. The leaves were crystal white with hints of silver and baby blue. It looked like something out of a fantasy book and Enid made a mental note to revisit the plant in the springtime.
It will be even more breathtaking in full bloom. She thought.
How Enid had never noticed this remarkable tree before was beyond her but she ignored that question when she saw spots of black between the droopy leaves. The young wolf carefully pushed past the white branches and, to her surprise, found her roommate. Wednesday was sitting on the ground, her black blanket perfectly contrasting the snowy ground. She was wearing her noise canceling headphones and reading a book with a leather cover. For once her hair was down, the obsidian waves perfectly framed her pale face. Enid tried not to stare, she really did, but Wednesday looked so beautifully peaceful. The silver leaves of the tree made her dark eyes sparkle as they scanned across the page.
“Wolf got your tongue?” the goth deadpanned.
“AHHH! Damn it, Wednesday don’t do that, you scared me!” Enid shrieked.
“How could I have possibly frightened you, you knew I was here.” Wednesday murmured while removing the cuff covering her right ear. Enid thought about arguing but decided against it.
“You okay? A little birdy told me you have a migraine.” The blonde frowned with visible concern.
“Must Pugsley tell everyone my medical business.” Wednesday groaned.
“He’s just worried about you and so am I!” Enid complained.
“I’m quite alright Enid, the migraines come with the mental strain of visions and there’s nothing I can do to stop them. The most gruesome one has only ever made me nauseous so I don’t think you or my brother have much to worry about.”
“Would eating help? It’s dinner time, has been for the last twenty minutes.”
Wednesday thought for a long moment before responding
“I suppose getting out of the snow and replacing my energy might do me some good.”
Enid laughed. Wednesday always spoke in such a professional, almost scientific manner. It was strange but also adorably endearing at the same time. Quickly the werewolf began to walk away before she realized her roommate wasn’t following her.
“Need a hand, Willa?”
Wednesday looked at Enid with a puzzled brow but she didn’t reject her offer. The goth placed her cold hand onto Enid’s palm and allowed herself to be pulled up.
“Willa?”
Enid smiled to herself, she hadn’t meant to outwardly compare her crush to a tree but the nickname was cute, That didn’t mean she owed Wednesday an explanation, however. For once Enid was going to have Wednesday guessing, what she doesn’t know won’t kill her and all that, one could consider it payback for Wednesday making her worry all evening.
