the flower god

Summary:

One day, Gu Yun was crouching in the garden and subconsciously raised his head. He was about to say something to his Majesty and before his mouth opened, a sudden spring breeze swept by and brought along the fragrance from the entire garden right at his face.
Changgeng, who was among the flowers, instinctively turned his head around and asked: “Hm, what?”
The Marshal, who had forgotten what to say, refused to make a fool out of himself, so he mysteriously narrowed his eyes and smiled.
Since then, every year during the birthday of the flower god, the flower that Marshal painted varied and yet the person remained the same–no matter if it was a peony flower god or cotton rose flower god, they all bore His Majesty’s face.

A lil changgu webcomic inspired by the new gardening extra.

Notes:

I may or may not have forced my wife to research the invention of the steam engine just so that I could tentatively place Shapolang in the alternative Qing Dynasty period for one reason and one reason only: to match it to the earliest panned watercolor I found during my research, invented by William Reeves in 1780. Let’s just say, if there’s anyone who would get the newest foreign invention of the art world to play with, it would be yifu. Anything for yifu. His majesty provides.

Also, whoever owned the sets I used for reference mismatched all the colors, and, well… tell me Gu Yun wouldn’t. You know he would. There’s little chance he can read the names anyway.

You can find me here. Always up for chatting <3
