Work Text:
Kanade nervously sat in her car, her hand in her pocket touching the ring box.
Today is the day. Today, I propose to Mafuyu. We've been together for years. Worst thing she can say is no.
Kanade kept saying that to herself as she tried to calm down her jitters. Mafuyu opened the car door.
"Kanade, get out. I checked our reservation." Mafuyu said, and Kanade nodded. They were currently at a very expensive restaurant to celebrate Mafuyu's birthday.
"Thank you." Kanade pecked Mafuyu's lips and walked into the restaurant hand-in-hand.
"6pm reversation for Yoisaki Kanade." Kanade said. She had already told the restaurant about her proposal, and they had promised their best room.
"I'll show you to your table." The waiter said and took Kanade and Mafuyu to the top floor, where you could see the city from the window.
"Let's order. I'll have the carbonara, and you?" Mafuyu asked.
"Uhh... same thing." Kanade mumbled, feeling her hands get sweaty. Mafuyu looked at her.
"You act like me when I didn't have a sense of taste. How about you order the oil pasta, you like that more than carbonara." Mafuyu said and Kanade nodded.
"Thanks."
Stupid Kanade! This is Mafuyu's birthday, why is she taking care of you? Kanade chastised herself, then smiled at Mafuyu.
"How's work lately?"
"A little busy, the other nurses are on holiday. Yesterday I..." Mafuyu and Kanade started talking, and Kanade felt her nerves calm down as they ate their dinner. But once her plate was clear she started feeling nervous again.
Oh my god. Now's my chance. Kanade panicked a bit but grabbed Mafuyu's hand and looked into her eyes.
"Mafuyu, I want to tell you something... A birthday gift, of sorts." Kanade said, and Mafuyu smiled at her.
"Go on." At Mafuyu's words, Kanade reached into her pocket and opened the ring box.
"Mafuyu, we've been together for 8 years. We met when we were 15, and we're still together after all these years. I want to be with you forever. Will you marry me?" Kanade asked, her anxiety at an all time high.
What will she say? Kanade waited in anticipation.
Mafuyu's eyes widened. She seemed stunned and confused. Kanade felt her world collapse. Kanade forced a smile.
"Oh... That's okay, Mafuyu." Kanade said, trying to fight the tears coming up. She gently pat Mafuyu's hand.
"I get it. Maybe it's too early for marriage. We'll figure something out-"
"What do you mean?" Mafuyu asked, cupping Kanade's face and looking into her eyes. Now even Kanade was confused.
"I thought you didn't want to marry me, so I was just..."
"I thought we were married. Are we not?" Mafuyu asked seriously, and Kanade stood there for a second, before laughing.
"You- you thought what?" Kanade asked, trying to stop herself from giggling.
"We sleep and wake up in the same bed, eat the same meals, kiss each other before going to work and have date nights on fridays. Isn't that what a married couple does?" Mafuyu asked.
I guess she has a point...
"But we never had a wedding. I want to have a wedding, I want to see you in a wedding dress." Kanade admitted shyly. Mafuyu smiled.
"Then... Okay, we can have a wedding. And I'll marry you." Mafuyu said, standing up to hug Kanade. Kanade hugged back, and kissed Mafuyu.
"So you're my wife now?"
"I've always been your wife."
