    "Sandy nodded and then walked through the rest of the kitchen and out into the living room. Her heart broke a little at the scene before her.
    Ponyboy was sitting sideways on the couch, and he was leaning the left side of his face against the back of it.
    Sandy walked over to stand in front of the couch. She reached out a hand to carefully push some of Pony’s reddish brown hair out of his face. It was sticky and matted with blood, and there was a long cut running from his right temple down his cheekbone.
