Victor holds Louis' gaze for the first time in many years. It still hurts – just a whisper – and he hates himself for it. “If I am to pursue, then who am I to call upon intermediaries and third parties when I am more than capable of engaging with you myself? The letters were mere formalities to compensate for my prior duties; I come to you at your command. Anything below that implies that I believe my time is more important than yours, and I would never consider disrupting your schedule.”
