Work Text:
Dante noticed Charon sitting in the seat next to Vergilius’. She held the red bear Dante saw when everyone swapped bodies. Or maybe it was a dream like last time? She had a lollipop in her mouth but she seemed upset.
Dante walked up to her and typed on their PDA. [Are you okay Charon?] They showed her the screen. Her gray eyes trailed across the screen then she looked up at Dante. “Kkomi is hurt.” She held up the bear to Dante. It was obvious the stitching on the bear was loose. They held their hand up to the side of their clock. The bear's condition was even worse now, stuffing was falling out of it like snow.
They typed on their PDA again. [I know how to sew. I can help.] They showed it to Charon, who blinked in surprise.
“Tick-Tock's sewing is better than Verg's?” She asked. Dante gazed at the bear again and they noticed loose and sloppy stitches. They nodded. Charon nodded back. “Charon will get sewing supplies.”
Dante sighed as they sat in the triple seater usually occupied by Sinclair, Don Quixote and Yi Sang. The bear's limbs had to be separated from it's body, the stitching was so bad Dante had to start from scratch. They had their gloves off for this. It was oddly soothing though Dante would've preferred to do it in their room lest a Sinner catches them.
By now Dante sewed the bear's head back on, the stitches were a different color than originally but Charon said that it's fine.
Feeling Charon's eyes on them Dante paused sewing the bear's arm on, turned their head to her and tilted it. Her gray eyes landed on their clockface. “Tick-Tock is a better sewer than Verg.” She said with her usual blank expression, chewing on a piece of candy. Dante nodded once and resumed sewing.
The backdoor opened with a creak, making Dante jump and poke their index finger with the needle. <Ow…>
The room got red for a moment before returning to normal. “What is going on?” Vergilius asked as he walked up to Dante and Charon. The young woman waved. “Fresh morning, Verg. Tick-Tock is fixing Kkomi.” She points to the red bear held in Dante's hands, still missing most of its limbs. The man sighs. “I thought I fixed it?”
Charon shook her head. “Stitches got messed up and Verg is a bad sewer.” She pouted. Vergilius turned his attention to Dante whose finger was bleeding. The man sighs again, walks over to the glove compartment, takes a box of bandaids and walks back, taking a seat next to Dante. He took one bandaid out of the box, took off the plastic bits.
Dante sighed and reached their hand to Vergilius. A moment later a cute light blue bandaid with little bunnies was on their injured finger. They stared at it for a moment before resuming sewing back the bear's arm on.
The three of them sat in comfortable silence.
“Verg, Charon is hungry.” The young woman declared as she hopped off the seat and tugged on Vergilius' sleeve. The man sighed lightly before turning to Dante. “You're going to be fine?” Without looking away from their work Dante nodded.
A moment later Vergilius and Charon leave into the corridor. Dante sighs as they continue stitching, nearly done with one of the bear's arms.
They think back to Hohenheim’s question. It wasn't too long from the time they answered his question. Their answer even if it was correct from the general standpoint he quickly shot it down, giving his own answer.
Truth be told Dante thought of the Sinners as family, even if not everyone thought the same. Afterall all twelve of them plus Vergilius and Charon is all Dante has right now.
<Seriously that guy! I'm glad I didn't say family! He might've shot down my answer even more!>
They hold the needle in their fingers but they don't move.
<And if I told him I thought of Vergilius as more than a guide then what!?>
Dante paused to think. What “more than a guide” meant? Obviously Vergilius is a Fixer, a Color one at that so surely…
But what “more than a guide” meant to Dante personally?
They shook their head. They already knew the answer.
Dante liked Vergilius in a romantic sense. And their feelings were reciprocated.
Dante sighed once again and resumed sewing.
By the time Dante was done with the bear they were nodding off. They heard the backdoor open and Vergilius' footsteps. The man sighed as he stood in front of Dante.
After some shuffling Dante was picked up by Vergilius in a princess carry. They let themselves relax in his arms. As Vergilius stepped through the corridor Dante heard him say. “You're lucky you're cute, Dante.”
Dante let themselves fall asleep in his lovers arms.
