Work Text:
“Captain?”
Farlyn blinks, shifting to look at its friend, or uh, subordinate. The bear moves their mouth as if to swallow, holding their hands behind their back.
It raises an eyebrow in question, nodding at them to continue.
“We uh… found another one.”
Gammy reveals the object they’re holding, it being a black crown with a glowing, purple and crescent moon eye. The thing stares back at the lamb, seeming to vibrate with an emotion, if this thing can even have emotions at all.
Nose twitching, Farlyn reaches to take the crown, feeling the slight tremble of it atop its palms. Looking back to Gammy, the captain bows its head in thanks, and gives a thumbs up.
Knowing when they are dismissed, the bear smiles awkwardly and leaves the quarters. Leaving Farlyn alone with them.
All four.
Placing the purple crown on the table, Farlyn shuffles over to grab the portable safe, inputting the code and taking out the other three. One yellow, one green, and one blue.
Setting them up in a semi–circle, the captain is unsurprised when they begin to speak in an ancient language it can’t understand, nor would it really want to. It doesn’t want to deal with this at all, to be frank, but as the leader it’s its duty.
The mumblings continue, before a sudden voice makes it startle.
“Why don’t you wear us?”
It blinks in response, and the blue crown seems to huff, continuing.
“We can grant unimaginable power. Why do you not use it when we are willing?”
Farlyn stares back, unimpressed.
“Is it duty that keeps you? We will help you manage better, we will help you achieve feats you could scarcely imagine, foreigner.”
The green crown chimes in, then.
“You could raize the world, destroying all your enemies in a clap!”
It does not reply. The yellow crown narrows its eye.
“What is it that keeps you, lamb?”
Farlyn looks to the silent crown, the purple one, and it stares back as it finally speaks.
“It is afraid of us.”
