Death’s Last Letter - Old Phantom Fic Circa 2011

Summary:

Originally written in a school notebook when I was 11.

Work Text:

Phantom’s POV

My father died before I was born. My mother married another man- my stepfather.

My mother died giving birth to me, and when my stepfather saw my distorted face, he loathed me. He cared for me until I was old enough to leave the house; he took me to the circus, but not to have fun. Instead he put me in a cage, tied me to it by my ankle, and used the humiliation of my wretched face to earn money.

I was fed up with it. So, I used the rope he had tied me to the cage with to strangle him.

When people saw the body of my murdered stepfather they begin screaming “Murder! Murder!” And went looking for me. A girl, older than I, led me to the chambers beneath the opera house.

That's where I grew up, with my heart twisted in evil knots- knots tied with hatred and loneliness. Until I met you, Christine.

You were the one who untied the evil knots in my heart.

Then, you left me alone for ten long years- ten years of silence.

When I saw you again, you had a beautiful son- my son.

You sang one song for me, and you were killed by madness holding a gun, leaving me to care for our son.
