Chapter 1: Abditory

Chapter Text

Rook Hunt. 3rd year at Night Raven College, Vice Housewarden for Pomefiore, and a student that is part of the science club… An enigmatic person with a passion for all things beautiful. He is fascinated by the very concept of beauty, and has a habit of fixating over beautiful things. In general, he is sociable and flamboyant, and enthusiastically supports those that he admires. Or that’s what everyone believes.

To the normal eye, everyone perceives Rook as an outgoing person who excels in drawing and writing, stalks a handful of the student body, and who has incredible eyesight. Although, there is one thing everyone wants to know about Rook Hunt… and that's his family.

Out of every student attending NRC, most people don’t have a single clue of what his family does or what they look like. The only thing they know is that he has 5 siblings (two are older and three are younger (which makes him a middle child)) and they own multiple homes in every country. Some speculated his family works for the government while others say they’re probably home realtors. Most people asked Rook what his family does, but they never got an answer out of him pertaining to the family. So the rumors kept on circulating with no end in sight.

Which brings us to now…

It's not rare for students to be around the school on their lunch break or after school when classes are out. What is though is how Rook is found underneath a tree in the field rather than in his after school club. Most people wouldn’t question it due to how the majority of the student body would avoid interactions with this hunter. Which is fine… the more people who avoid him, the less Rook has to fake a smile and act as if he doesn’t have any problems at all. A distraction would suit him right now, it's better than reliving the hell that went down last night.

Around this time Roi Du Leon would be looking for a nap, I wonder where he is now…he’s probably heading to the botanical garden to get away from Monsieur Dandelion ” Rook thinks while doodling in the notepad. What he didn’t know was that the Lion was right behind him at that moment looking for a place to sleep while avoiding Ruggie, the unofficial vice-housewarden of Savanaclaw.

By the time Leona reaches the tree he notices the hunter in question lost in thought, not picking up the fact that Leona is right behind him… 2 feet away precisely, enough distance to see what Rook was doing in his spot. Not that he cares so much for the hunter (in fact he doesn’t care for the hunter at all.), but that changes in an instant.

It wasn’t like Leona to be concerned for a classmate, let alone it being Rook of all People, but him… he would never expect Rook to draw such a detailed dismembered cadaver. It threw Leona off by a lot. When he looked at it again, it wasn’t just a random cadaver, it was Rook. Rook being dismembered by god knows who.

Disturbing? Concerning? These words were running through Leonas' head while still standing behind Rook (who is still oblivious to what is happening behind him). It was alarming that such a person can draw a detailed, brutal, gory sight of themselves. This isn’t normal behavior for this said hunter, not at all, but here we are.

Oi Rook, what are you doing here instead of being at your club? You’re not the type of person to skip out without an excuse. ” Leona says as he sits down by the tree. It catches Rook off guard knowing that he wasn’t able to pick up on the extra body that appeared, but he doesn’t mind… it's better than letting his mind wander off. Did he see it? Rook wonders, but he brushes off that thought quickly. Even if he saw it, he won’t particularly do anything about it… it’s Leona Kingscholar we're talking about. The Housewarden of Sanavaclaw who rarely does work, so he thinks he’s fine.

But in reality, they both know that Leona won’t bother to ask him because it’s none of his business. “ Actually Roi Du Leon, I thought it was a nice day to relax after a week of back to back labs. Plus, the Science Club doesn’t have any new material to go over so I saw this as an opportunity ” Rook states as he closes the journal. Although in reality, I just want to be free from the hell I call my family. Leona nods as he lays down, knowing damn well what the hunter said isn’t true at all. He should know, because they’re in the same class, as well as being his ex housewarden. In all the years he’s seen Rook, not once has he seen his parents… which gets him to wonder.

For him to know everything about me, but I can’t know anything about him ticks me off. I get everyone has secrets and all, but it doesn’t hurt to share some facts about yourself to others. Leona thinks as he lays down. Rook on the other hand sits there idly as he stares off to space. I wonder what is going on in his head… and why can’t he share his personal life.. Is it that classified that only he himself can know… or is it that fact that his family is actually insane. Whatever it is, I want no part of it.

And with that, Leona drifts off into a deep sleep with a single thought lingering, ‘ Just who are you truly, Rook Hunt…

By the time Rook comes back to his senses, he finds a certain lion asleep underneath the tree they both were sharing. “Leona, I do hope one day you’ll be able to be free of my presence… I hope that on my behalf”. Rook says as he opens the journal to the drawing again. “Maybe one day I'll be free from this family… one way or another…”.

Looking at the picture, he thinks to himself before closing his eyes enjoying the afternoon breeze, ‘ I wonder if they’ll ever see me as one of them… or just keep me at arms length waiting for myself to meet my demise…
