Chapter Text
"You sure you don’t wanna come with us?” Dawn asked as the older man wiped tears from his eyes.
“Nah, I’ve got a ton more stuff I wanna build.” It was true, he did have more ideas for this world, but that wasn’t why Steve wanted to stay. The past few days, in Minecraft time, had been some of the best in Steve’s life. He actually made real human friends, and together they saved the world that he loved so much. But he didn’t have the guts to go back with his new companions. It had been over 30 years since he set foot in their world. Steve didn’t fit in all those years ago, coming back now wouldn’t change anything. If he didn’t belong before, it was probably even worse now considering how long he’d been gone. Steve was horribly aware of that. Yet despite it all, something powerful tugged at him… Garrett. The moment Steve saw him, his heart fluttered. It had been so, so, long since Steve saw another human… and Garrett? Garrett was beautiful. The flowing hair, the sweaty muscles, the pink tassel jacket that looked straight out of the 90’s. Garrett was cool, seriously cool, and Steve did his best to impress him. He kicked those zombies' asses, even ripped off one of their arms, and timed the sunrise perfectly. Steve looked like a total badass as the zombies burst into flames around him. And now, Steve was looking back on all the time he spent with Garrett, torn between him and the familiarity of the Overworld.
“Via con dios… It means ‘goodbye, brother.’” Garrett walked over to Steve, gripped his arm, and hugged him.
“No it doesn’t,” said Natalie. Steve turned to look at her, but Garrett stopped him.
“Don’t listen to her, it does.” Natalie just shook her head.
“Goodbye Gar-Gar. Good luck with your store.” Steve took one final look at Garretts eyes. Garrett was doing the same. Garrett wanted to grab him by the arm and pull him through the portal… But in the end, he knew it was Steve’s choice. Still, letting him go hurt like hell.
Garrett, Natalie, Henry, Dawn, and Dennis (Steve’s Minecraft dog, now Dawn’s), all walked through the portal. Steve was left standing there, fidgeting the Orb in his hand. The feeling that had been building up inside him finally reached a boiling point.
“God damn it…” Steve muttered to himself. “Alright, screw it!!” Steve jumped through the portal…
He couldn’t let Garrett go
Ironically, as Steve shot out the other end of the portal, he landed on Garrett.
“Steve! You changed your mind!” Henry had a huge smile on his face as he helped the two men up.
“Yep! Decided I've had enough of square food,” Steve smirked. Garrett brushed the dirt off his jacket and put on his sunglasses (honestly it's more like a vizor) trying to hide his blush. Garrett couldn’t help but get frustrated, he didn't like how touchy Steve was. Hell, the guy grabbed a fistful of his ass within like 20 minutes of them meeting. But what really made Garrett angry was that he liked it when Steve touched him.
“Now, Just gotta figure out where I’m gonna live!” Steve’s words woke Garrett up from his thoughts. The group looked around awkwardly
“Hell no.” Natalie said.
"Natalie!" Dawn gave her a look that said "seriously?"
Then, without thinking, Garrett spoke. As soon as the words got out, he mentally kicked himself.
"You can room with me, bro.”
“Really? Aw thanks Gar-Gar!” Steve lightly punched Garrett’s shoulder. ‘Gar-Gar’ that was the nickname Steve had been using ever since they met. Seve had no idea how much it messed with Garrett’s feelings.
“Well, it’s settled then. Let's all go home for the night, get some sleep, and we can meet up in the morning. I’ll drive you home, kids” Dawn said. As she turned to go find her car, Dennis, Henry, and Natalie followed close behind her. Steve and Garrett were left standing there, together.
“Lead the way Gar-Gar,” Steve said as he gestured for Garrett to start walking.
It was then that Garrett realized he had lost his car keys somewhere along their adventure.
