Work Text:
Who I am or who I was?
Those are things I can’t recall at the moment.
With only my consciousness at the mercy of the void before me.
I have no arms, no mouth, no sense of smell or hearing.
I’m just… existing.
But little by little—
Little...
Little...
Slowly, I start gaining clarity, slowly I gain awareness, and suddenly, I feel something electrifying.
SNAP!!
Feeling groggy and dizzy, my brain tries to process where I am.
It’s a well-decorated church, elegant, something that screams wedding, something strangely familiar, as if I’d seen it many times during my days.
Thinking about it, I hear murmurs until I can fully understand what a feminine voice says next:
[?] "I think marriage should be something truly happy."
Beside me, I see beauty—
A face I thought couldn’t exist, angelic-level beauty with amethyst eyes and silver hair, wearing a wedding dress.
While lost in thoughts about the beauty of the slender woman, something clicks inside me—
She has pointed ears, like a half-elf.
‘Amethyst eyes, silver hair, and half-elf... There’s only one person with those characteristics, but how is this possible?’
I start reaching toward her, trying to find any reason for this not to be real.
[?] "Regulus, why do you treat your wives like this?"
Wait a minute. Regulus?
This can’t be real. I look down.
I see that I’m wearing a white tuxedo. I move my hair—white as snow.
'I… I’VE BEEN ISEKAI’D INTO ANOTHER WORLD!!!'
I fully recognize this scene now that I stop to think. A church, women sitting behind me—those are this body’s wives.
All of them have dead stares that make me think this can only be the world of Re:Zero, and I’m in the worst possible moment as Regulus.
What happened to him in the end was something no one would want.
I have to change this.
I choose my words carefully to try and keep Regulus’ facade.
"It’s simple, I have the right to name my wives however I want."
Just saying those words gives me a huge sense of disgust toward myself.
But it’s what the moment needs. Without it—what might happen?
The women shudder, concerned about what might happen to Emilia.
To continue my act, I point to a blonde woman with a nice figure and blue eyes.
"Number 184 or whoever you are, I don’t care—take the wives out of Pristella. Go somewhere safe."
She trembles a bit at my tone but nods quickly.
"As you wish, dear."
She turned toward the gathered wives and said:
"Follow me."
One by one, the women left the cathedral, and with that, a flicker of hope to survive ignites within me.
Emilia continues her speech, which, to be honest, I don’t really care about.
I’m more concerned with the imminent death likely heading my way.
BOOM!!
The door explodes at an absurd speed, hitting me dead-on and shattering.
From where it came, I see red hair, a face that screams chivalry, and clothing that screams elegance.
On the other side, I see jet-black hair and clothes that are far from normal for the occasion—black with orange details.
"Oow, we both kicked it, but looks like you just blasted the door."
"I’m sorry, I guess I failed to hold back."
"Rein, you know you don’t have to apologize all the time."
Seeing these people before me, I furrow my brow and have just one thought:
‘Ah… this is going to be hard.’
