“Sometimes people see want they want to see.” Sam shrugged. “Your dad wants to see the woman of his dreams, your siblings want to see a good mum, the people around her see someone doing a few good deeds and automatically assume that makes a good person. But it’s the actions behind closed doors that determine a person’s integrity. What happened to you is behind a door that nobody else wants to be opened.”
“Sometimes I wish I could close it as well. I don’t want to know what’s behind it.” What he wouldn’t give to forget. To forget all of it. Not that he could remember much of his childhood anyway, but to forget all the shitty things that he couldn’t stop himself from thinking about.
