Chapter Text
“Is this woman actually gonna show up?” I look down once again at the little postcard in my hand. It shows a beautiful young woman with hair the colour of an aubergine in a curled up style I’d never quite seen before. She drew on a helpful arrow that points to her big… let’s say eyes. I turn it over and loudly sigh. As if on cue, a garish yellow car skids as it slows down from going 100mph. The door flings open and with one glance, I can be sure it’s her.
The car flies off at record speed once again. “Shinji, was it? I’m Misato Katsuragi! I’ll take you to where you need to go so don’t you worry about a thing!” I slowly nod and take a look around.
“You’re not as cute as I thought you’d be.” She says teasingly. Dick.. I think to myself. “And you’re so much cuter.” Her eye twitches.
“HA! I’d want to be. In my field, cuteness is everything. That’s why I’m so concerned about you.”
Now I’m worried. What the hell does she mean by that? Before I can even finish that thought, we arrive at our location.
We walk through countless empty corridors. Every room in this place is bigger than you could imagine. All empty. Echoing. Cold, steel, chambers. Is this really where father keeps himself cooped up all day? A lone light switches on with a sudden sound, and the man himself comes into view. He stands far above me, the details of his face impossible to make out. Still, his voice booms through the massive open room. “I didn’t think you’d come. Shinji.” I awkwardly look over to Misato, I really have nothing to say.
“But he did. Didn’t put up a fight, either.” She says with a seriousness I didn’t expect from her.
“Did you tell the boy about our plan for him?” Misato chuckles a little and rubs the back of her head.
“That would have been a lot to take in, commander!”
He scowls. “No matter. I will tell him now.”
“We need someone to defeat our foes, the angels. The only one who can do it is you.” All of a sudden my eyes light up and I feel elated. Only me? I’m needed? “Oh father, I won’t let you down! Anything you want, I’ll do it! I can’t wait-“
“You must become a magical girl.” Aha. I placidly smile up at my father, waiting for him to double over laughing. I look to Misato, whose expression remains completely serious. The lights flicker and at my feet I see a blinding light. I feel something fluffy rubbing at my lower leg.
“That weird cat thing will be a helpful asset, do not put it in harms way.” Even father was bothered by the creature, its body was seemingly comprised entirely of light. I hear a childlike giggle echo through the chamber. “Sorry!” The light suddenly dimmed and I could see the cat thing’s silhouette.
“I, am Adam!” He announced with grandiose. I look down into the hollow space where his eyes should be. He tilts his head. “AN Adam, at least. The coolest one.” I hear an unimpressed sigh from up above.
“My job is to turn promising young ones into magical girls! I’ll guide you throughout your mission, to defeat the attacking ange-“ I can’t help but interrupt. “Wait, wait, wait.” I glare at the creature’s unchanging grin. “Why can’t I be a magical BOY?” Silence.
“That’s no fun. This makes me laugh.” Adam covers his mouth in a silent chuckle.
“It’s time for you to make a wish, Shinji Ikari. In exchange for your soul.” That.. sounds great! What do I wish for most of all? Maybe.. for my father to take me back and we can live like a family again! “That won’t be necessary. I will take the liberty of making a wish for you.”
In an instant my hopes are dashed by that imposing voice. I look up at that man with disgust. Misato isn’t too happy either. “Commander! How.. how could you? Your son-“
“Come to me, Adam. I have decided what is best for us all.” Father reaches out his hand, Adam jumps into the air, and in a vortex of light, he appears on my father’s arm. “What do you wish for, Gendo Ikari?” He coos. I squint my eyes and for the first time, i see my father smile. “Bring me back to Yui. There is nothing in this world that can make me feel like she does.” “Done.”
Suddenly, I come crashing down to my knees, a whirlwind of pain courses through every part of my body but passes as soon as it arrived. I feel like something’s being sucked out of me. It must be my soul… Through clouded vision, I see my father fading away, like a ghost. With my face against the cold metal floor, I reach a hand out and grasp in his direction. “F- fuck.. you.. father.” I growl.
