Chapter 1: Gimme Gimme Gimme

Chapter Text

Shouting echoed throughout the night, inside the lair of one lone wolf. The palace of The Baron.

Pictures adorned the walls of the manor, their gold frame bouncing from slams. Guards waiting by the mansion's vault, looking at each other with a confused but almost content expression.

Despite muffled doors keeping it down, holding it back like a caged animal, the yelling persisted, breaking down the door with sheer volume and malice.

The Baron yelled, gripping the walkie in a tight hand “I don't CARE! If you can't get Midas…THAN WHY DID I EVEN HIRE YOU IMBECILES!?” one sharp throw to the wall and the walkie was no longer a walkie, now just scrambled pieces on the ground.

There stood Fletcher Kane, head in hands, panting in and out, so full of fury that his chest became heavy with it.

Enough Fletcher Kane had it with his Alpha guards, their level of incompetence was something people had only joked about, although with everything happening on Oninoshima, Kane supposed that even this mythic wave of…stupidity was possible.

Anger and tiredness dripped from Kane's face, letting it all out in small breaths and sweat.

How was Fletcher Kane supposed to take down Midas when his guards cannot even do a simple task? It's hopeless, The Baron thought. The possibility of Kane going alone crossed his mind like a highway but it was run over by the thought of ‘no’ relatively fast, finding Midas and taking him down…That's lots of physical work, something a lone wolf like Kane didn't have the time for.

Kane groaned.

The Baron got up, sweeping up his mess, ears turned back and body tense. His thoughts were clouded, a gold cloud plastered with the face of his rival, oh how Kane wanted that smug gunslinger out, how dare he live rent free in a king's head?

Midas could pay his taxes in gold if he wanted, but that man's hubris was far too big, even when the two, Kane and him were in cahoots it seemed Midas was above his wolf comrade, laughing, gawking at the concept of being even comparable to Kane.

A god looking down to a king.

Low growls accompanied Kane as he finished sweeping, throwing away the now destroyed walkie. Why should he be here cleaning this mess? Hadn't Kane accumulated enough wealth to have another sweep up this mess?

Not that it mattered now, did it? Ridiculous. Kane returned to his desk, laptop still open to recent reports from his employees. Midas this, Midas that, but still no reports of his capture or better yet his death. Though, how exactly do king's men take down a god?

The details weren't important to Kane, it could be messier than a depressed man's room and the Baron wouldn't care, as long as those golden hands were hung in his study, right at the top where he'd be reminded of his own victory, more than a victory, actually, a triumph.

Kane blinked, eyes stung from staring at his future trophy on the wall. Of course, a Baron cannot get too caught up in imagining, for now Midas’ mounted hands were purely fantasy, something he'll deal with the prospect of when the time comes. The Baron faced back to his computer and began typing, responding to the statuses of his Alpha guards. All technical and boring, nothing fun quite yet.

Finding Midas dead was not even the most important thing to worry about, no, Kane still needed the gold for Daigo. Getting so much gold in a short time would be no problem for the Baron.

Daigo got the best possible option, not that there were any others out there…-

BANG

                BANG

“...What in the world?”

Kane’s ear twitched, shooting up from his seat to investigate the noise. Whatever that was, it was getting closer to Kane's office… It was powerful and loud. Some kind of… beast was in the manor, only a beast could make such powerful thumps and the long annoying screech of claws digging into mansion walls.

Guards screamed, calling out to the Baron for help, begging, pleading for mercy from this beast, but judging by the hoards of screaming afterwards, it must not have listened. Anyone would have fear racing through their vains, after hearing that.

Not the Baron though.

Instead of running, screaming or even so much as trembling Kane stood up, closing the computer and stood directly in front of his doors.

This beast was going to face the Baron head on.

BANG

           BANG!!!

The door fell.

Dust and debris now covered the floor and air, the Baron stepped back, shielding himself from the mess, holding back a cough and letting his eyes adjust to the dusty wreck that was his office.

A large silhouette formed from the debris… a tall, huge figure, looming over the Baron.

Despite nature telling Kane that he should back down, he stood, yelling. “Who do you think you are!? Breaking down MY door!? Do you understand who you are in the presence of!?”

Kane reached into his holster, pulling out his Baron pistol with a swift motion, pointing it at the large imposing shadow in front of him, aiming right for the heart.

There was a heartbeat playing in the king's ears.

His men were of no use, he must face this alone. With as powerful as his pistol was, this should only take one shot, one hit for this intruder to be rid of, out of his palace.

With Kane's finger on the trigger, he pressed further.

“Fletcher Kane.”

A voice. The stranger had a voice now, a low and gruff one from the chest.

The stranger stood forward, holding Kane's pistol and pointing it down.

“How do you expect to get a shot with hands so shaky?”

Dust subsided, the shadow once hiding this mysterious visitor was now gone, showing a bright, beautiful orange coat with large black stripes.

A tiger… thought the baron. The Tiger was large, probably the most buff the Baron had ever seen, they wore a black suit with a pattern vest and red tie, this was a person of great strength and wealth…the most striking thing other than their size was a gorgeous golden buckle on their belt, shaped like a diamond it was a stunning statement piece, one Kane couldn't help but admire for a moment.

Kane blinked, shimmer fading from his eyes before answering “And so? You expect to barge in without consequences?” He hoisted his gun back up and pulled further on the trigger.

“Before you choose to shoot, Fletcher, I have an offer.” The Tiger spoke, much too calm for someone with a gun to the chest.

The Baron raised a brow, pulling back his trigger finger, “An offer? What of?”

“Of yours truly. I'd like an occupation in your…company.”

“...A job?”

Kane lowered his pistol.

Something wasn't adding up here, Who just barges in, breaking into someone's house all for a job offer? Couldn't even call in an application? Although…knowing the amount of crime rampant, perhaps this individual wishes for a better place of employment?

It's a reasonable assumption but still an assumption.

“Surely you had no need to eliminate my guards, cause hundreds, no… THOUSANDS in property damage and completely invade my privacy by breaking down my doors! For howl sake, who knows what you could've walked into- All for a job!?” Kane shouted.

“I asked around. My… acquaintances mentioned you were a difficult man to reach.” The Tiger responded bluntly.

“That I am, but my point still stands.” Kane crossed his arms “Of course though… all that for a job is very stubborn, we at Alpha appreciate a stubborn mind ...hm.”

Now that Kane really pondered it. With this Tiger's strength and intelligence they could be the key to taking down Midas. Someone like him shouldn't be stuck with such dimwitted guards, though they need to be with someone smart, someone strong, someone… like a king.

Like Kane.

“I may have a position for you, something like…a bodyguard.” Kane smirked, “if you're prepared for what it takes.”

The Tiger nodded.

“Did I get your name? Bodyguard?”

“It's Oscar.”
