Work Text:

Mingyu and Wonwoo are getting married. It was all because of their family setting them up, arranging their marriage (their parents are bestfriends) so yeah it was all due to friends' promises.

It was their first night after the wedding party. They were going to sleep next to each other but Wonwoo is still shy. Knowing Wonwoo might feel awkward to sleep beside the younger, Mingyu initiated their first-ever deep talk,

“I know we might still be awkward with each other but we're already married. I know that we get married without love but it doesn't mean we will act like strangers forever. I know it feels weird sleeping beside someone you don't know well but we're husbands now. It might take time but we have to get used to sleeping together. And we should sleep beside each other. Don't sleep on the sofa.” Wonwoo nodded and said okay.

What surprised Mingyu the most when Wonwoo accepted Mingyu's suggestion, the older one brought their pillows beside him and put them between the newlyweds, just in case something bad happens. Mingyu's speechless. He started to think that Wonwoo didn't like their marriage, was still awkward, and probably hated him because he was being forced to marry someone like Mingyu. It goes around 6 months they sleep with tons of pillows situated between them.

When Mingyu is about to give up and thinks it's all one-sided love (Mingyu is actually fall for Wonwoo for the first time they met, when their parents introduced them), a big moment happens.

It was 6 months after their marriage, their relationship is still stuck being friends (At their 3rd monthversary of their marriage, Wonwoo is no longer awkward with Mingyu, said he wants to know more about Mingyu, but it takes baby steps, so for the start, he will consider their relationship as “friends” first. That's okay. Mingyu gladly accepts it. Mingyu's gonna say “yes” to everything that Wonwoo wants, except a divorce (hell no)).

Mingyu is about losing his hope, even on his birthday, Wonwoo didn't congratulate him at all, “Perhaps he didn't know that today is my birthday” he thought.
Mingyu tried to be positive that Wonwoo would say a “happy birthday” to him but until he arrived at home that night, Wonwoo still didn't say anything. Mingyu felt so sad, he should have known before that there's no way Wonwoo would know his birthday. And there's no way they would level up their relationship from friends to the real husbands.

Until now, when Mingyu is about to sleep, Wonwoo on the other side called his name. He looked so nervous and hesitated to give something hidden behind his back.

“What happened? Is there anything wrong?” Mingyu, finally being brave enough to ask.

“N-nothing happened but I-I... just want to give you this”

Wonwoo handed him a grey box and there was a ribbon on top.

“What's this?”

“That is my gift for you Mingyu. Happy birthday. I'm sorry if it's only white socks- I saw your wardrobe and I thought you really need a new white socks so I decided to buy you these. I'm sorry”

Mingyu couldn't hide his happiness. He smiled widely and pulled Wonwoo into a hug. He hugged Wonwoo so tight and said, “I thought you didn't know my birthday. I thought I- I-”

“There's no way I'll forget your birthday. You're my husband, how can I not remember my husband's birthday.”

“H-husband.. Wait. Wonwoo... did you just- Oh- Are we... not friends again? D-do you... love me now?”

“Nope, I'm gonna sleep. Good night”

Wonwoo pulled his blanket, ready to sleep, but he woke up again, tossed pillows between them, and suddenly kissed Mingyu on his right cheek.

“And happy birthday, Mingyu. I love you? Yes, I love you”
