Work Text:
With a sudden move in the sheets, Hanbin wakes up from something he can hardly call sleep. A body slowly rolls closer to his in the bed, back nestling against his chest, a sigh of relief. It's so hot that he thinks he'll probably die.
“Hao,” Hanbin scolds in the dark and the other is startled before he can let out a grumble. “You're doing it again.”
Zhang Hao turns over in the mattress and whines, “I thought you were asleep!”
“I wish I was!”
Hao sighs sharply and his shoulders slump, lying on his stomach. And just to be clear, he does understand Hanbin. The weather has been terrible over the last few weeks, a heat that almost makes them think they've actually died and are now in hell paying for their sins. If it's already too hot for Hao, someone who naturally runs cold, he can't imagine what it's like for Hanbin. Since even the damn tank tops aren't enough to keep him from burning hot.
But, you know, Hao is stubborn. He doesn't give up easily, and obviously has his priorities. That is: he needs cuddles. There's no option for him to just not have it. He wishes Hanbin could understand that too.
Hao hums, and after a beat approaches Hanbin again, careful in the way he pushes himself towards the other, resting on his side, eyes shut. “C'mon, you won't die if we just stay like this,” he whispers, nestling against his boyfriend.
“I will, actually,” Hanbin simply says, but doesn't do much to change his current position. Although he’s... definitely sweatier than a normal person would be.
But Hao doesn't care. He’s too, after all. And what's his is Hanbin's too, maybe they should just share sweats or something.
That sounds a lot worse than he thought it would. The need to cuddle is doing crazy things to his head.
“You're literally naked. How are you still feeling hot?” Hao growls in frustration and turns around, staring at Hanbin in the dark.
Hanbin looks down. Just to check that his underwear is still there. “I'm not naked.”
Hao heaves a long breath. God, how was he supposed to sleep like that? What's the point of having an extremely hot and (almost!) naked Sung Hanbin next to him in bed when they can't even touch? He wishes he had a bit more self-control, but we all know that's not how it works. Touching Hanbin is already a physiological need by now.
“You could be, though,” Hao smirks and when Hanbin confusedly blinks at him, it's his cue to lean in and place a heavy kiss on his boyfriend's lips.
The other grumbles against his mouth before he can return it, “I just want to sleep.”
“And I want to cuddle!” Hao sulks, taking advantage of the sudden closeness to stay there. Perhaps if he approached slowly enough Hanbin wouldn't really notice until they were too wrapped up in each other to move away. “You know I can't sleep without touching you.”
“You want too many things,” the youngest says but Hao does his best to make the most upset face he can, pouting and everything else. It works, apparently, because it's only two seconds before Hanbin sighs and opens his arms, “Ugh, fine, c'mon.”
Hao looks like an excited puppy as he snuggles up to his boyfriend instantly, sinking his face into Hanbin's bare chest, entwining their legs, wrapped in his arms. Those ten little seconds of happiness are almost like heaven to him. He doesn't even care that they're sweaty and disgusting.
Hanbin is far from thinking the same.
“I think I'm gonna die of heatstroke,” he chokes out faintly.
It's another groan that makes Hao pull away. It feels like the tenth of the night at that point. “You're really mean, you know that?”
“It's not my fault the AC is broken.”
“It's not my fault you're basically a human heater!”
The room falls silent. Hao thinks that now he's feeling hotter too, maybe it's because he misses Hanbin. God, he's pathetic.
“What if we just hold hands?” he offers after a while.
“My palms will sweat,” Hanbin argues. Poor guy sounds almost as miserable as Zhang Hao.
“Gross,” Hao frowns. “Ugh, how am I supposed to sleep like that?”
“It's not like I'm getting any sleep either.”
Hao purses his lips. He's not used to Hanbin denying him something, so it's harder to deal with than usual. Maybe he should just learn to sleep without being hugged by his gorgeous, hot boyfriend anyway.
But again, he doesn't give up easily. It's a small, final movement he makes to touch his ankle to Hanbin's, and then—
“Get up,” Hanbin warns abruptly, sitting up.
“No, I don't want to sleep on the couch,” Hao cries as if it were the most terrifying thing in his life, though he knows Hanbin would never even dare to do that.
He pulls Hao up by the hand, walking out of the room. “I'd never make you sleep on the couch. Just—come here.”
So, that's one of the advantages of being your best friend's next door neighbor. Although it's the first time it's happened, Matthew doesn't seem so surprised when, in the middle of the night, there's a (still) almost naked Sung Hanbin at the door of his apartment. Holding his grumpy boyfriend's hand, while the other clutches a pillow as if it were his last lifeline.
“Can we use the AC in your living room? Ours is broken,” Hanbin asks very simply. “And Hao needs cuddles to sleep.”
In the end, they actually slept on the couch. The freezing air makes Hao feel cold in his sleep, but Hanbin is finally there, holding him, keeping him warm just the right amount. Back pain would be one of the consequences the next day, but it's not as if either of them care.
Maybe that’s one of the perks of having a human heater as your boyfriend, after all
