Chapter Text
“Pigsy, with all due respect,” a demon said to the chef pig, “we cannot possibly expand your restaurant—especially when little people even know about it.”
Pigsy only nodded before finally turning to look at them. “You’re right. But isn’t it better to at least try?”
Another demon shook his head. “No, it’ll be too expensive. We could end up in debt—”
“Dadsy?” a young child in a red sleep robe asked, interrupting the conversation and drawing the attention of the demons. Pigsy quickly rushed over to the child.
“What is it? Another nightmare?” he asked with concern, to which the child simply nodded. Without hesitation, Pigsy picked him up and turned back to his companions. “Be right back.” he said in a stern voice.
After gently tucking the child into bed, Pigsy sat down beside him, a serious expression on his face. “Now, dear, mind explaining this nightmare to me?” he asked. The child didn’t hesitate to nod and quickly began his story.
“I was falling into a dark tunnel…”
“And?”
“As I fell, I landed in this… strange mountain filled with different creatures that shouldn’t be able to do basic human things.”
“Like what?”
“Well, they all talk, but there are a few that… protected me? Guided me?”
“And who might these creatures be?” Pigsy asked as he gently rubbed the child’s hair, earning a laugh from the kid. The child then continued, “Well, there’s an emperor—an emperor as pretty as a flower, a golden insane monkey who, compared to the others, doesn’t seem so crazy, a blue giant who gave me advice, and a shadow monkey with six beautiful and colorful ears!”
“Huh,” Pigsy said with fascination at the child’s claims. “A monkey with six ears? Now that’s odd. Why would it need six?” At that, the child only shrugged, moving closer to Pigsy who’s heart broke as the child asked, “Dadsy… Do you think I’m going mad?”
At that question, Pigsy quickly touched the child’s forehead, as if checking his temperature, before nodding. “It seems you are mad—bonkers out of your head!” Then he leaned closer to the child’s ear, as if what he was about to say was a secret no one else would dare to share. “But let me tell you this: all the best people are.”
The child giggled at the claim before letting out a tired yawn and snuggling deeper into his bed covers. Pigsy took it as a sign to leave, however he paused and turned around to give him a gentle kiss on the forehead and reassuring him.
“Listen, MK, these dreams—or nightmares—are just that: dreams. If you ever feel stressed or scared, you can do exactly what you did tonight—wake up. And remember, me or Tang will always, always be here for you, alright?”
The child, although fighting to stay awake, only nodded, losing the battle with sleep. His last word before he drifted off was a soft, “Night.” And just like that, he was out like a light.
Pigsy couldn’t help but chuckle as he looked at MK asleep and whispered, “Good night, Qi Xiaotian. Sleep well.” With that, he turned off the lights.
