Chapter 1
Henry is walking to his home, the brownstone apartment that he shares with Alex , his fiancé. To this day it feels unbelievable that they’re getting married. He still remembers the initial days of them living together. Since day one Henry had started developing feelings for Alex and as the days go by he can feel them getting stronger.
Henry loves planning for their wedding. He always wanted a small but beautiful wedding and with the love of his life by side, he can’t contain his happiness. This Sunday Henry was supposed to meet his mother, Catherine for their monthly lunch and to plan for the venue. It was her gift to the couple. During the lunch Henry asked for some marital wisdom since his parents are the only couple he knows that are still so fond and in love with each other as they were since Henry could understand what love is. His mother laughed at the question and gave all the clichéd answers but the most important thing she said was “Always remember why made you fall in love with him”.
This question stuck with Henry . Alex was one of the most wonderful beings Henry had ever met. There are so many things about Alex that drive Henry crazy. But to pinpoint the specific reason why he was in love with him was difficult. Apart from his Greek god like features and body (which certainly does help) Alex was the most charismatic person he’d ever met, full of life and energy. One thing that comes to his mind when he thinks about their relationship is how safe he feels with Alex.
He grew up with two siblings Beatrice and Philip. Bea as he called her was always the trouble maker and naturally attracted all the attention. On the other hand Philip was always involved with some drama at uni. Henry was always a quiet kid. He is closest to his father, Arthur Fox. Similar in nature to him. Arthur was the first person Henry had come out to and he received nothing but love from him as always. The family shifted to America from London due to Catherine’s job. Henry always felt as an outsider in his school in the US.
The most dark period of Henry’s life was when his dad got sick. He got diagnosed with cancer. Henry lost his childhood the day they got the results. The treatment was quite difficult on his father. Henry saw his father turning half into the person that he was. It took sometime but his father recovered completely since it was an early diagnosis.
Everyone always said,”He’s too mature for his age” a sentence that haunts him to this day, a sentence that made him feel obliged to always have his act together. Never fail never ask for help.
He used to find it quite difficult to trust anyone thus impacting his relationships. People always left him saying he’s high maintenance or too stuck up. This resulted an unwelcome loneliness. He hated coming to his apartment where he had no one to share his day with. After being persuaded by his friend Percy common know as Pez, Henry placed a want ad for a roommate.
Alex was the first one to respond to his ad.
He was looking to share the rent. Henry felt an immediate attraction for Alex due to his exuberant energy. Their first few weeks their relationship was quite strenuous. Henry always took some time to warm up to people he had newly met. Alex however thought that Henry was indifferent to him which offended him.
One day Alex couldn’t take it anymore and asked, or rather yelled at Henry, “what is your problem with me dude, why do you hate me”. Taken aback thinking how could he reach to this conclusion Henry explained his situation. After their conversation Alex always gave him his space. They started spending more time with each other. And he slowly started trusting him.
It took him long time to reach here but now that he has, it feels like the easiest thing for him to do. He can be himself completely trust him.
For the first time he feels like if he were to fall someone was there to catch him. For the first time he feels at ease. For the first time his heart feels safe.
So yeah Henry loves Alex not just for his ungodly looks but everything else.
