There’s No Place Like Home

Summary:

Glinda is as heartless as she is wicked

Notes:

Don't be sad, write a drabble!

Work Text:

There was only one real indication that Glinda the Good has ever had throughout her entire life that let her know she was capable of love. Only someone who had a heart to give away could have it shattered in front of their very eyes.

So it was a bit of a comfort to finally know that she wasn’t as heartless as she once thought.

Before she knew she had a heart, Glinda used to cry all the time. For small things, mainly. Sometimes, even just for show. One of her many techniques to get what she wanted. It came easier to her than it should have.

Many things are easy when you don’t have a heart. You take what you want. You hurt who you want. And best of all, you don't have a single qualm about it.

Glinda never used to envy the people with hearts, they always seemed so much worse off. They worried about such trivial things, things she needn’t waste her time nor energy stressing over.

That, of course, was before Elphaba.

Glinda’s life can be separated cleanly into two parts. There was Before Elphaba and After Elphie.

Sometimes she wonders if the heart she lost was ever hers to begin with. Maybe Elphaba’s heart was just so big that she had been benevolent enough to share some with Glinda before she took it away again.

The piece of Elphaba's heart that had once beat so steadily within Glinda's chest was simply returning home. And Glinda couldn’t possibly blame it. After all, there truly was no place like home.

Notes:

This may be a surprise to my 7 loyal fans, but I actually identify more with G(a)linda than I do with Elphaba most times (I was a massive bitch who was changed by love and is still waiting on my reckoning)
