Favorite Mug
The Ancient One had few things he considered treasures. True, he had collected many things over his unnaturally long life. But many of those things, while he enjoyed, were simply things. While he didn’t desire for anything to happen to them, if something did, then something did, and he’d move on.
But he did have a few things that he treasured.
He still had a small medallion that his family had given him long ago, before he started on his martial arts journey. There was a hairpin that he had given to a girl he once loved, long ago. A poem from Yoshi sat framed, as did an ink drawing of their family by Mashimi. A carefully painted vase by Tang Shen sat with them.
But today he added something new to these shelves that held his few treasures. It had arrived in the mail, from New York City. He hadn’t known what to expect when he opened it. But as soon as he laid eyes on the item, he had smiled, and needed to wipe a few tears from his eyes.
Carefully and proudly, the Ancient One sat a mug on the shelf. It was covered with photographs showing Splinter, the turtles, and their two human friends. His grandson, his great-grandsons, and their adopted siblings. And on one side of it, there was a simple phrase: To our grandfather.
Yes, this was a treasured thing, and would always be his favorite mug.
