Work Text:

It took Steve a while to get used to the new world, an Earth he was no longer familiar with. Things had changed in the years he was in the overworld, and so he had to navigate what felt like an alien planet all over again.

Garrett had let the guy live with him, the two of them known as THE duo of the town. Just two friends, with nothing to change about it. “If it isn’t broken, then don’t fix it,” he could hear his father’s words ringing in his ears. Steve figured it was best to never change for that reason.

“This is an IPhone,” Garrett had introduced him to the concept, handing him one as a gift. They were fairly wealthy together now, after all, and friends were supposed to gift each other presents.

Karaoke that week went strangely. They’d decided to let other people up on stage, and when it was Garrett and Steve’s turn, the taller man chose a love song (with a rock’n’roll tune to it, obviously). It looked bad, but the two of them stuck it out and performed the song regardless. Something about the way Garrett stared at him sometimes made him ill.

It was fine though. They were friends, and these were the kinds of things friends did with each other.

Steve was lying on his bed, playing around on the phone his good friend had gifted him a week prior. He was still struggling to get the hang of it, but it was a work in progress. Foreign things never came easily. He and Garrett had watched a movie together earlier that day — nothing weird, just Prisoners.

His phone dinged, alerting him of a new message that had come through. The contact name read ‘Gar-Gar’, so he figured it was just another one of those memes his friend had been sending him consistently. He opened the message without second thought.

He shut his phone off within milliseconds, eyes wide. That photo was definitely not meant for him. He put his hand over his mouth, trying to come to sense of what he had just seen. Garrett had sent him a damned dick pic. Curse him.

Without even really thinking about it, he opened his phone back up and mindlessly stared. He could’ve blamed this on the fact that he wanted to make sure he wasn’t hallucinating, but in reality, he just wanted to look. He felt perverted for staring, his lower stomach stirring warmly.

Oh god, Garrett. What have you done to me?

He subconsciously licked his lips, realising they had dried. Steve’s hand wandered down to his own thigh, not exactly wanting to do anything to himself, but just in case, it was there. This was his friend’s photo he had been staring at, he couldn’t understand why he felt so sick.

Just as his free hand started to slide to his growing need, the door to his bedroom opened. He scrambled to sit upright and take his hand off himself, trying to look somewhat normal. It looked suspicious, and it was.

“I was trying to send you a meme, but accidentally clicked that photo instead, sorry,” Garrett apologised to him, not seeming that phased by the situation. His expression changed a little when he saw how flustered Steve was. It processed in his head only then how his friend had been positioned when he came in.

He walked over to Steve’s bed and sat down. Steve felt more sick than ever, unable to tell if the illness was coming from his stomach or heart anymore. It all felt the same.

“Steve?” Garrett said his name with that oh so beautiful voice of his. The other man just nodded in acknowledgment, understanding that the photo was an accident.

He looked down, noticing the visible half-chub the crafty man was sporting through his pants. It swapped the room’s tension from 0 to 100 pretty quickly.

“Look at me.” Garrett’s hand found its way to the side of Steve’s face, his fingers gently playing with his greying beard. This sight was a familiar one, from back when he and the others took Steve back to Earth. It was intimate, and they both knew it was a setup for something more. A change.

He leaned in slowly, checking to make sure his friend was doing the same and that he wanted this. He did. Before either of them could really think about it, their lips pressed together sweetly. It was gentle at first, but the passion picked up after a few seconds.

Garrett started to pull up the bottom of Steve’s shirt, but was quickly stopped by the man pulling away, looking surprised. “I’m a virgin,” Steve told him, not wanting things to go any further than this. He nodded, understanding. A man like him hadn’t had the time to sleep around.

“Let’s stick to this then,” Garrett muttered, going back into the kiss. It was intimate and loving, and the two of them couldn’t get enough of it.

Maybe change wasn’t so bad after all, Steve thought.
