Summary
At that moment, Naruto came out of the house. After smiling at her from a distance, he looked down, muttering to himself what he had to say again and again. He was so distracted that his sweaty hands completely dropped the ring box right as he tripped over a rock.
Hinata stood up when she saw him stumble—right before her eyes fell on the box. Naruto’s eyes widened in an instant, and he rushed forward in panic:
“For fuck’s sake!! Ugh... wait! Don’t look, Hinata! Please—!”
He hurried to grab the box, while Hinata was interrupted again when Naruto started speaking:
“No. Please. Wait.”
He suddenly took a deep breath, but since he had ruined the whole moment, he completely forgot what he wanted to say. He felt like punching himself.
So, trembling, he dropped to one knee.
Hinata’s eyes widened, and she quickly tried to lift him up:
“Naruto! Why? It was nothing! Are you hurt? No need to say sorry—”
But Naruto gulped hard before correcting her:
“No, it’s not… that.”
