She's my (girl)friend

Summary:

Tumblr request: How do you feel about Luke, forgetting from a combination of concussion + pain medication after being injured on the job that the date was shut down and he and Penelope are not together, flirting in a very Garcia-like way with Penelope at the hospital (thinking he's flirting suggestively with his worried girlfriend to ease her stress).

Work Text:

She really was trying to focus on what the nurse was saying. Trying to ignore the wandering hand that was skimming the back of her thigh, the calloused fingertips tracing the hem of her stockings. “He’s going to be okay, though, right? Like, back to normal, annoying newbie?” Her voice was strained as his hand curled around her thigh, squeezing gently, his thumb rubbing– not so comforting– circles as she listened.

“Don’t worry, Chica. I’ll be all better for you soon, show you exactly what this newbie can do,” he slurs with a grin. She swats his hand away for the umpteenth time, ignoring the foolish grin on his face. The nurse chuckles, watching the two of them fondly. “I see the painkillers have kicked in, Agent Alvez.” She checks over his notes once more.

“He has a pretty nasty concussion, so he might experience some memory loss, but that’s relatively standard. But if it lasts more than a few days, just bring him back, alright?” Penelope flounders– memory loss?

Luke looks over to the nurse, his eyes practically sparkling. “Isn’t my girlfriend cute? She’s always so worried about me, aren’t you muffin?” Penelope almost chokes on her breath, “girlfriend?! I’m not your- we’re not together!” Despite her protest, his hand had already caught hers, tugging her closer and kissing the back of it gently. “I know you’re mad I got hurt in the field, babe, but look at me, I’m fine.” The blonde could feel her cheeks burning, trying and failing to pull herself from his grasp.

“We really aren’t together…” she pleads, looking to the nurse for help.

“I think I’ll leave you two to it, I’ll get the doctor to come round shortly and then you guys can head home.” Gathering her notes, she exits the room, giving Penelope an amused smile, who stared after her in shock. “You know what would really make me feel better?” Luke asks, his voice low and gravelly in a way that makes her heart race. “No, so tell me so this can be over.” She huffs, praying her face isn’t as red as it feels.

Sitting up slightly, he pulls her close enough to wrap an arm around her back. “You, in a little nurse's outfit.” He wiggles his eyebrows, his hand wandering once again, making Penelope shiver as he drags his short nails across her thigh.

“Okay, that is enough!” She squeals, ripping herself from his grip. “Chica, what’s wrong?” Penelope melts at the concern in his voice, wringing her hands together, she struggles to gather her words. “You keep touching me and calling me your girlfriend.” A flush has spread across her chest, her usually confident demeanour tucked away as she watches him curiously. Luke scoffs, flinging his legs over the edge of the bed; moving quicker than she’d anticipated, he pulled her into a hug. “That’s because you are, my beautiful, sweet Penelope Garcia.” His hands rest on her arms as he pulls back, smiling widely as he meets her eyes. “Do you remember our first date?” he laughs, “we were so awkward then.”

“Oh Luke, that date was a disaster,” she starts slowly, “we decided to just stay friends, remember?” Regret creeps in her voice, almost consuming her when his hands drop, the loss of heat making her shudder. She can feel her heart trembling as he takes a step back, his head shaking, muttering under his breath. “That can’t be right- no, there’s no way…” he utters, striding towards her.

“I’m sorry, Luke-” she doesn’t get to finish her sentence when his hands cup her face, tilting her head up so that he can meet her in a kiss.

He kisses her hard, making her toes curl and body burn with need. She grabs his biceps, gasping into his mouth when he picks her up and settles her on the bed, pushing his way between her thighs. Luke tangles his hands in her hair, swiping his tongue across her lower lip and exploring her mouth when it opens in surprise. He swallows every soft gasp and wanton moan until they’re both breathless. Pressing one final kiss to her lips, he leans back, his thumbs swiping gently against her cheeks. “Are you sure we’re still just friends?” His forehead rests against hers, his heart hammering as her hands snakes up his chest.

“But we agreed-” she starts.

“I have been in love with you for too long, Penelope Garcia. You’ve never been just a friend.”

She meets his eyes, seeing nothing but pure adoration. His body was still hot against hers; the fire she had tried so hard to ignore was blazing. She had experienced love before, but never like this. “I love you too, newbie.”

They share a smile, lips only inches away when the door bursts open, an awkward cough sounding to break the silence. “Sorry, I didn’t mean to interrupt… Just came to say you’re free to go, agent.” The doctor nodded to them before making a quick exit. Laughter fell over them, too happy to feel embarrassed about being caught. “I guess I better take you home, Alvez,” she says in a low tone, sliding from the bed. “I might even dig out a nurse's outfit for you.” Penelope winks, leaning up to peck his cheek only to be caught by his lips, his arms possessively wrapping around her.

“You’re going to be the death of me, Garcia.”

“Don’t worry, I’ll nurse you back to health.”
