Work Text:
It was five in the morning and the darkness in the sky was already fading away, the morning light bleeding through as Taehyung stumbled into the dorms. He had just spent the last few hours recording and he was so tired. Exhaustion made his limbs heavy and he could barely keep his eyes open as he shuffled towards the beds that were so close together they were practically attached. In the dim light that filtered in through the thin curtains he could make out a figure lying in the closest bed. If he wasn’t already so tired he could probably have figured who it was despite the blankets that covered him but all Taehyung wanted to do was make it to his bed on the far side and fall into a deep, deep sleep.
Taehyung was in the slow process of stumbling by the bed, trying his hardest in his exhausted state not to disturb the occupant. He had almost made it too when out of nowhere a hand from underneath the blankets reached out for him, groping blindly in the darkness until it found his wrist and gently tugging it, pulled him towards the bed. As he moved closer he was able to make out Namjoon’s face pressed against the pillow, one eye cracked open, staring up at him blearily.
Taehyung tried to pull away and untangle himself from Namjoon, who sat up a little, eyes barley open as he looked up at Taehyung confused and only half awake.
‘Tae?’ he muttered, hand on Taehyung’s wrist never loosening. His voice was deep and scratchy with sleep.
‘Yeah,’ Taehyung whispered, ‘I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to wake you.’
‘s’alright,’ Namjoon mumbled, his voice slurred with sleep. With his free hand he pulled the blanket aside, a clear invitation for Taehyung to join him. Taehyung hesitated for a second, torn between shaking off Namjoon’s hand and going to his own bed and hopping in next to him. eventually he decided his bed was just too far away.
The heat of Namjoon’s hand made Taehyung’s skin tingle as he lowered himself into the bed next to him. Namjoon sleepily heaved the blanket over them both before settling back down, all the while never letting go of Taehyung’s hand.
The warmth of the blanket enveloped Taehyung as snuggled close to Namjoon, who had closed his eyes again, humming happily, rubbing small circles with his thumb on the skin of Taehyung’s wrist. Taehyung wasn’t sure why he hadn’t pulled his hand away and moved to his own bed but now that he was here next to Namjoon he certainly didn’t want to leave. Namjoon’s deep steady breathing was lulling him to sleep, his heavy eyelids drooping.
Before sleep took over Taehyung looked up at Namjoon. In the faint morning light the older boy’s bare face looked peaceful, like the stresses of everyday life had no effect on him and it caused Taehyung’s heart to flutter and a pleasant warmth spread throughout his chest. Namjoon’s eyes were closed, his mouth hung open as he snored gently, already having drifted off to sleep again. Taehyung let out a contented sigh as he closed his eyes too, letting his mind drift off and his breathing level out, making sure, even as he drifted off, not to let go of Namjoon’s hand.
