Chapter Text
Legend speaks of a hero, when the world is destined to regrow.
It has sworn on time and life that one will always stand.
Under the gaze of legends past, the world has known peace.
But Hyrule is not under the gaze of any peace.
Could a Hero even rise when no hope remains?
Long ago, Hyrule stood as a pinnacle of prosperity. It was a kingdom blessed by the Goddesses. Even when it faltered, joy and beauty persisted from it. For even in the face of evil, the people of Hyrule knew they had little to fear. For they were a kingdom blessed by the Goddesses, and if their need were ever dire, those Goddesses would send forth a Hero and Princess.
What Hyrule forgot is that while the chosen pair blessed by fate, they are not immortal. And against the test of time, even Heroes and Princesses die by the hands of mortality.
It was here that evil struck. A century after the last Hero and Princess passed, the King of Evil rose once more. In their new peace, Hyrule was complacent. They fell, praying to their Goddesses for aid. But aid had already come. And Hyrule must wait for another.
Centuries passed. First, the kingdom clung to the hope that evil would die by the same means that took all others. If not from a Hero, then from old age. For surely evil cannot be immortal, not with the wickedness fighting in its mind. Patiently, they waited for the evil king to die. And patiently, that generation died, stealing away its hope with it.
Now Hyrule stands barren. A city of shanties stands where Castle Town once towered. The followers of the evil king are now seated in forged oasis, crowning the cities, a shell of their former glory. Meager commerce exists in a kingdom where the resources dry out and will not return. And the people run dry of hope.
There is no freedom in this kingdom. There is no beauty. No hope. And now there is no faith in a Hero for there is no one to remember the word. Hyrule knows nothing but the agony it has suffered for generations. There is nothing better left to wish for, for there is no knowledge of a better life.
And so our story begins…
