In the end, everything related to the royal family's balls was exhausting. However, in these situations that demanded the young knight's presence, he remembered the words of Althea, his mother: “In life, small sacrifices are necessary. But what comforts me is knowing that they will be rewarded.”
In a way, she wasn't wrong.
For the real reason Link felt content to remain steadfast at the event was right beside him, seated on the imposing throne, next to the king.

According to an ancient curse, those with the blood of the Goddess and the spirit of the hero are forever destined to be locked into an endless cycle of reincarnation to defeat the evils that plague their land. Thus, there are many epic myths of grand adventures from throughout the history of Hyrule.
However, after thousands of years the curse, the root cause, had fallen through the cracks of time, leaving the Princess, a humble merchant's son, and the Prince of the Gerudo very, very uninformed, and vulnerable.
Or: Link doesn't expect to be anything more than the son of a travelling merchant. But a fair in Castle Town teaches him how wrong that assumption was, and leads him on a dangerous quest of bravery, love, and betrayal.

Zelda places a few kisses on my neck, slowly moving up until her mouth is near my ear to whisper:
“Let’s do it this way,” she says softly, making my whole body shiver. Her teeth lightly nibble on my earlobe. “I’ll start alone... and if you want to join, you’re more than invited.”

Link and Zelda have spent more than half a decade apart from each other, after Link left Hyrule to find himself following the fall of the Calamity. Five years later, they reunite and, after a lot of mending, finally... get together once more (I think you know what I mean).
OR
Zelda asks Link to "cook dinner" for her and he actually starts making dinner (spoiler alert: it burns).

This one-shot is actually a bonus chapter to the main fanfic "The Courage to Find Me," also written by me and available here on AO3. It takes place during the time skips mentioned in Chapters 19 and 21 of the said fanfic. However, it can be read on its own, as it is pretty self-explanatory.
