After Harvey fires Mike for betraying him with Jessica, Rachel demands that Mike confess what he is hiding from her. Harvey overhears their fight and finds Mike collapsed on the ground and sobbing in the Pearson Hardman library after Rachel storms out the door, leaving Mike behind. hook knew that tone well. it was expected, anyway. if they asked about business then they'd be answered the same. but there was another thing they were familiar with that neither of them dared to name since she got back - their back-and-forth banter as a language only the two of them spoke. she broke the formalities like she knew she was the exception. jokes slipped sideways into otherwise serious exchanges, and the teasing cut through any tension between. the way she'd lean just close enough to show that she means it. and sometimes, hook would be blessed with the song of her laughter - sharp and bright as a struck match, if they returned a flirt of their own.
but if this was how she chose to answer now, without stepping out of the bounds of mere competence, then it would be fair to meet her there, too. “good.”
