Shane knows something is wrong the instant Ilya’s eyes snap to him and, for the very first time, Shane begs for his instincts to be wrong, pleads for the way his gut goes tight and the back of his neck prickles to be a byproduct of twenty hours of sleep in the last seven days. Ilya continues to look at him with eyes that hold none of the warmth they should and Shane feels like his chest is caving in, his ribs cracking from their mooring points on his sternum and curving inward to pierce his heart, when Ilya asks, “кто ты?”
