Raul Tejada in: The Courier has bad taste in men

Summary:

The old school ghoul doesn't get paid enough for this

Work Text:

The mission went well, as they all seemed to after the Legion’s victory. What remnants remained of both the NCR and non-integrated tribes fell quickly through lack of support, fleeing the state, or because whoever was left had committed suicide in a cowards attempt to avoid the judgment that would be cast on them.

Another small NCR settlement was taken out, one that had cropped up as a last defense before the Legion would have hit Camp Golf (which, unknown to the few soldiers stationed there, had already fallen) and now all that remained were the corpses and whatever could be looted off of them. It wasn’t much, but to Six something was better than nothing. Not to mention, Raul could fix or use anything they could salvage.

Raul was the only one who remained still, technically. All the others who joined Six on her journey had left after she had sided with the Legion, bar Rex (who was a dog), ED-E (who was an eyebot, a fascist one at that who if it could speak sentences probably wouldn’t care much that Six focused on longterm stability and safety over the feelings of her peers), and Lily (who was being taken care of in the Lucky 38 until Six could find a solution to the mutants worsening mental state). Raul had lived long and hard enough to not care about the Legion that much, on top of his own travels through their territory. Sure he had opinions on the individual men, but he agreed with Six on prioritizing long-term safety and stability. Not to mention he had his own love of frontier justice-things like shooting drug traffickers point blank instead of bothering with a trial seemed to be something they both could agree was a net good.

Speaking of the ghoul, Six turned to see him rummaging through a sack of spare radio parts in an attempt to look more busy than he really was. They had raided this camp with Vulpes, who had wanted to see what he could extract from the soldiers since he had none of his frumentarii placed within the camp. It was the first mission Raul had had with the (fairly literal) fox of a man after hearing so much about him from Six.

"Well Boss, I can't say I like that dog guy but at least he's no longer trying to kill us. If you start trying to date another man that tried to kill you though I'm going to need a pay raise for dealing with you missing too many screws." Raul gave Six a knowing look as he said this, he had heard what happened with Benny after all.

"....." Six suddenly had a thought and that thought was that it was a wonderful time to find something to do was wasn’t kicking the bodies of dead soldiers. She quickly darted to one of the untouched corpses, using her own skills in trying to look much busier than she was.

"Boss. Don't tell me. No, I'm serious. Don't tell me anything." Oh she was in for it now. That tone of voice, that utter despair at knowing that she was about to make a very bad choice.

“It’s not like-I mean it’s kind of like that! But we’re not dating.”

“So you’re just going to have sex with him.” Raul raised one of his non-existent eyebrows at Six’s denial.

“So-” Six paused, though pointedly did not look anywhere in Raul’s direction, “Do you remember when we were on the Strip a few days after the Dam and I was talking about how Vulpes needing help gathering his living assets in the casinos? About 20 minutes after that.”

“No manches.....I'm not risking my life because it's the only way you can get off. Maybe if you were a bit older....” Raul paused as if he was actually thinking about it instead of mocking her, “No....I still wouldn't."

“You don’t need to be a prick about it!”

“I'm pretty sure I do. Is he even good? I thought you’d have more self respect than that.”

“Just keep finding usable parts, Raul.” Six huffed, though a smirk played on her lips which betrayed her true feelings on the manner. She understood where his teasing was coming from. Raul was concerned even if she knew she could take care of herself, on top of the fact that he found it incredibly funny to take the piss out of her. It’s why Six liked the ghoul, he lived for the bit.

“Hey whatever you say. Just make sure your new boyfriend starts paying me too, you don’t make enough to compensate me for the mental images.”

The last sound heard was Six throwing a pistol at Raul with enough force to knock out a few teeth.
