Work Text:

The amusement park is bustling with noise, people packed in every corner. The lights are blinding, bright neon colours flashing from the stands to lure in customers. Oikawa's munching on candy floss, his arm linked with Iwaizumi's as he happily skips, dragging him along.

"You want a bite?"

Iwaizumi scrunches up his nose. "It's too sweet for me."

Rolling his eyes, Oikawa bites off a large chunk, the candy floss already melting in his mouth. He squeezes Iwaizumi's arm suddenly, squealing with excitement.

"What is it?"

"I want that." Oikawa mumbles, a shit ton of candy floss in his mouth. He points with his free hand to a group of large sloth plushies hanging in one of those places Iwaizumi considered a scam.

"I can just buy you a stuffed animal, dumbass."

But Oikawa shakes his head fervently, furrowing his eyebrows as he looks at Iwaizumi. "Where's the fun in that? Just follow me."

He goes up to the lady at the counter, donning that charming smile and easygoing manner of talking, arm still looped in Iwaizumi's. The woman smiles, hands him a toy gun.

"10 bullets. You've got to knock out at least 8 of 'em."

"That's child's play," Oikawa announces confidently, winking at the lady who blushes slightly. "Iwa-chan, watch me win this on the first try."

He did not, in fact, win it on the first try.

Oikawa huffs after missing the cans for the third time, already having lost. He doesn't even attempt the rest of them. Letting go of Iwaizumi, he digs in his pocket for cash.

"Another game," he says to the lady, annoyance creeping into his voice. Iwaizumi's silent, watching the show as he occupies himself with biting down on the now empty stick of Oikawa's candy floss. "You trying again?"

Oikawa hums, picks up the toy gun as soon as the lady reloads it. He's not as casual now, tensing up as he focuses, one eye tightly closed as he looks for his target.

One of them falls.

Then a second.

He grins, satisfied. This is already going much better than the first try. He misses two, but it's okay as long as he doesn't again, right?

He shifts his left leg back, settles into the position for the last one. Holding the gun tightly, he shoots.

And misses.

Oikawa groans painfully, slamming the gun on the counter. "Fuck me. I almost had that."

Iwaizumi chuckles, tries to drag him away. "Clearly you're no good. Let's go, Tooru."

"No. I'm winning that sloth." Oikawa says stubbornly. The woman's suprised when he pulls out another wad of cash, slides it towards her. "I'll do however many games that is."

He's determined to win this. He shoots and shoots and shoots, knocking down at least 5 cans per round, but never making it past 8. His earlier confidence is gone, and the frustration shows in his face. He tries not to keep furrowing his eyebrows - Oikawa Tooru will not be getting wrinkles over an amusement park game.

After way too many tries, he sighs in defeat. The woman looks at him in slight disappointment, as if he gave her way too much hope in the beginning. There's a line forming behind him and Oikawa's had enough.

"This shit's rigged."

Poor Iwaizumi, who'd already been on his feet all day following Oikawa around, was getting leg cramps and shifting his weight from one foot to the other. "I know. I always say so."

Oikawa whines, hitting his head on Iwaizumi's shoulder dramatically. "How will I live without my sloth? My life is over. I shall never be complete."

It's Iwaizumi's turn to sigh, fed up with his best friend. "I'll try."

"Really, Iwa-chan?" Oikawa looks hopeful, but there's still doubt in his eyes. "Not sure you'll be any good, especially when even I couldn't do it."

Iwaizumi doesn't respond, only shoves his hand in Oikawa's back pocket, pulling out another bill. "Hey!"

"I'm broke because I bought you all those snacks earlier." Iwaizumi retorts, handing the bill to the lady. "Last time, promise we'll be gone after this."

She smiles, reloads the gun for him. Iwaizumi gets into that zone of extreme focus like he does on the court. He still misses the first one, though.

Oikawa snorts. "You're no good."

"Shut up, loser."

Iwaizumi goes again, the can falling with a clank. Then again, and again, looking for the ones he think will fall the easiest, calculating each of his moves. This is even easier than volleyball - no moving targets, no strategies to counteract. Just precariously placed cans with very specific spots to knock them off balance.

In the end, 9 cans are knocked down.

Oikawa watches in complete awe (and jealousy) as the woman laughs, congratulating Iwaizumi and handing him the sloth plushie after he points to it. They walk out of the line, Iwaizumi carrying the stuffed animal on one hand and holding Oikawa's hand in the other.

"That's not fair! How did you-"

"I guess I just don't suck, unlike you." Oikawa gasps at the words, pretending to wipe away non existent tears, but Iwaizumi only laughs. "You're a sore loser. Now I get to have the sloth and you can dream about it."

"Iwa-chan! You're so mean!" Oikawa says in a shrill voice that makes Iwaizumi wince. He rolls his eyes.

"Shut up, idiot. You know I got it for you." He hands it to Oikawa, who hugs it so tightly the sloth might explode. "Looks just like you."

Oikawa sticks out his tongue at him. "He's so cuddly. Better than you could ever be, Hajime."

They mock each other's facial expressions for a good minute until they both burst in laughter, and Oikawa hugs Iwaizumi, the sloth between them. "Thanks, Iwa-chan. You're the best."

Iwaizumi is glad that Oikawa's face is buried in the crook of his neck, or else he'd see how red he's gone. "No need to thank me, dumbass. I was actually doing myself a favour, so you wouldn't keep complaining for the rest of the day." But he holds Oikawa tighter, hands wrapped around his waist. Once he pulls away, Iwaizumi boldly kisses him on the cheek. He can't even bring himself to regret it, not with the way Oikawa beams at him, his eyes gleaming. It's dark now, the sun having already set long ago and the neon lights are all that illuminate Oikawa's face, sparkling overhead.

Iwaizumi doesn't think he'll ever find someone other that Oikawa that makes his stomach do backflips just by looking at him. He longs to kiss the line of his jaw where one of the lights gleams, painting it a vivid red.

"I'm going to treat you, Hajime. You deserve it." He announces, already dragging Iwaizumi off to somewhere else. "I'll get you anything you want to eat."

"You better. I'm starving, and you've sure got money to spend."

Oikawa laughs, pulls him in closer by his arm, and Iwaizumi's never been happier. He'd let his stupid Oikawa take him just about anywhere, and do anything he'd ever ask.

And he wouldn't have it any other way.
