A few years ago, Narvin might have believed it, if someone had told him that Romana would be the end of him.
After all, the president was not at all cooperative, and he could easily see how some of her reforms could have disastrous results that could very well damage the image of the CIA and his career permanently. A bit paranoid perhaps, but it was in his nature to always expect the worst.
And the worst happened, but quite differently from what he could have predicted, that in the years with her the barriers between duty, loyalty and eventually love would dissolve and everything would mix and this mixture would motivate him to do things he could never have foreseen.
Narvin could have foreseen that Romana would be the end of him, but not because of her actions, but because of his. That in the end she would be in the middle of any of the motivations that made him act.
