Work Text:
The first time Katsuki visited the flower shop was just before the hags' birthday. His dad had asked him to go down to the new shop that had just opened up downtown to get her a bouquet of flowers and Katsuki very begrudgingly agreed.
Katsuki, not knowing shit about flowers, walked around like an idiot for almost ten minutes looking for the flowers his dad was after. That was until the young guy who worked there approached him asking if he needed any help. Katsuki probably didn’t make the best first impression by yelling at him to ‘ leave me alone, I know what I’m fucking doing’. The guy had simply chuckled and helped him anyway.
The man had green curly hair, stupidly big green eyes, freckled cheeks and he made Katsuki’s heart flutter in his chest. What the fuck? Katsuki found himself so lovestruck by this beautiful man that he didn’t hear a word he said. Grabbing the first bouquet of flowers he saw he walked up to the counter and bought them.
He noticed the man was wearing a name tag that said, Deku . Who names their kid Deku? He stupidly asked Deku if he was on every Thursday to which the dork told him his schedule and Katsuki swore he saw a faint blush spread across his freckled cheeks.
Katsuki had never been a flower guy. He had absolutely no interest in them but over the next few weeks he continued to bring them home. Not because he had become a flower guy but, there was one reason he kept returning to the flower shop. It was Deku.
He came in every Thursday since he knew he would be able to see Deku. Sometimes the green haired man would be busy with other customers but that didn’t bother Katsuki. He liked to watch Deku as he spoke, the way his face lit up when he talked. Most people would think these flowers were one of the most beautiful things they had ever seen but clearly they hadn’t seen Deku.
Katsuki had never felt like this for anyone before. He didn’t mess around with silly crushes, and he certainly never had time for dating in high school. But ever since he met Deku he found himself thinking about cheesy romantic things. The kind of cringy things that would happen in those dumb rom-coms Kirishima admitted to secretly liking.
He wanted to hold Deku’s stupidly big rough hands, he wanted to count his constellation of freckles one by one (he wanted to trace them with his lips). Katsuki’s heart thumped in his chest loudly and he wondered if Deku could hear it from behind the counter where he was serving a customer.
Today Katsuki entered the flower shop expecting to see a head of green hair behind the counter but instead there was someone else. Katsuki looked around the store like usual, but really he was looking to see if Deku was around anywhere.
“Hey, do you need any help?” The girl from the counter asked. She had shoulder length brown hair, bangs, a round face and pink cheeks. She wasn’t Deku.
“Where’s Deku?” Katsuki asked dumbly.
The girl furrowed her eyebrows in confusion, “Deku — You mean Izuku? He called in sick today, is he a friend of yours?”
Izuku . Ah, that made a lot more sense. “Hell no!” Katsuki growled, but he realised he looked stupid since he was the one asking where Deku was.
“Well, do you want some help?” Round face asked awkwardly, still looking at him with a puzzled expression.
“No,” Katsuki said before he abruptly left the store.

The next Thursday came around and Katsuki was hesitant to return to the flower shop but he decided he would go. Thankfully when Katsuki walked through the door he saw the familiar head of green hair walking out of the back room with a bouquet of orange tulips.
Katsuki decided to man up and talk to Deku — Izuku. While he was putting the new bouquet of flowers up on the display shelf Katsuki came up next to him. “You were sick last week,” Katsuki pointed out the obvious.
“Uh — yeah. Ochako had to fill in for me since I had a cold, but I’m all better now. I’m surprised you noticed, you do come here every week though” Izuku said, half muttering. Gosh the nerd talked a lot. “So, you really like flowers, huh?” Izuku then said.
“No” Katsuki said without thinking , “I mean, yeah of course I fucking do! I’m in here every week aren’t I?” Katsuki mentally face palmed himself, but really it was Deku asking the dumbass questions.
Deku chuckled and then went back to shelfting the bouquet and silence surrounded them.
“Hey, Deku?”
“What did you just call me?” Izuku turned to face him.
“Shit, I mean Izuku!” Katsuki groaned in frustration, “Your name it can also be read as Deku, I thought your name was Deku until round face told me—”
“You talked about me with Ochako?” Izuku interrupted with a small smile.
“I mean, I just asked where you were since you're here every Thursday damn Deku!” Katsuki argued, trying to defend himself. There was no use, Katsuki already looked like an obsessed loser.
As Katsuki went off talking he didn’t notice Izuku had pulled out his phone and was handing it to Katsuki. There was a faint blush on the nerd's face as he asked, “What’s your number so I can tell you if I’m not going to be on that day.”
Katsuki quickly snatched the phone and typed in his phone number and put the contact under his name. He handed it back and Izuku studied the screen until a warm smile bloomed on his face. “Kacchan!” Izuku exclaimed.
“What the hell!” Katsuki yelled, outraged. “What are you, five?”
“Well I thought if you have a nickname for me… I should have one for you too!” Izuku shrugged.
“And you chose Kacchan?” Katsuki said, unimpressed.
Izuku nodded before waving to Katsuki, “See ya’ around Kacchan!” and then he disappeared behind the counter.

The next day Katsuki received a text from Deku.

Katsuki knew his face was red. He hoped his friends didn’t notice the blush that had bloomed on his cheeks from texting Deku. Why was the dork so smooth, was he flirting? Is that what this was, flirting? Maybe Katsuki had been a tiny bit obvious about his crush on Deku, but he didn’t think that his feelings could be returned in any way.
It was just a stupid crush. But Katsuki didn’t do crushes, let alone dating . Because that's where this would lead wouldn’t it? Now that they are friends, how long will it be until they become more than friends . The thought made Katsuki nervous.
Dating was uncharted territory for Katsuki. He never did any of that in high school while most of his friends did, he hadn’t even had his first kiss yet. Things like kissing or holding hands or whatever sappy things couples did never interested Katsuki. He didn’t see what the appeal was for smashing your lips against someone else’s, but now he had started imagining what it would be like to kiss Deku. Would his lips be soft, or would they be chapped? Had Deku kissed someone before, surely he would have had too. That made Katsuki even more nervous, not that he thought he’d be bad at it — he was fucking amazing at everything thank you very much.
He stopped himself before he got too carried away. Who said anything about kissing!? Lost in his train of thought he was snapped back when a head peered at his screen over his shoulder. Katsuki quickly snatched his phone away.
“Who are you texting,” Mina bounced up excitedly.
“None of your damn business Pinky!” Katsuki growled.
Mina had a wide smirk on her face and he looked to see all of his idiot’s were giving him weird glances like they couldn’t believe what they were seeing. The great angry Bakugou smiling and blushing at his phone, take your fucking pictures.
“Oh my god!” Mina literally jumped up, “You’re blushing!”
“Bakubro, who are you texting with that look on your face?” Denki gasped.
“FUCK OFF,” Katsuki yelled and Mina sat down putting her arms up in surrender.
“Is he cute at least?” Mina asked with a wink.
“HE?” Katsuki shouted.
“Bakugou we know it’s definitely not a girl making you blush like that no offence,” Mina shrugged.
Katsuki scowled.
Kirishima put a comforting hand on his shoulder, “We’re cool with it bro.”
“I fucking know that,” Katsuki grumbled.
“Well who is he?” Mina asked, calmer this time.
“Some dumbass florist and that’s all I’m telling you now piss off.”
“A florist?” Kirishima raises an eyebrow.
“Can we please at least know what he looks like?” Mina practically begs.
“Green hair, freckles, big ass eyes, fucking stupid.”
Kirishima chuckles, “He looks stupid?”
“Yes” Katsuki groans, “Now fuck off all of you!”
“Bakugou you can’t blame us for being excited about this — you’ve never told us about your crush before!” Denki grinned.
“HE’S NOT MY DAMN CRUSH!” Katsuki balled his fists and Denki shielded himself.
“Alright he’s your new… guy friend ” Mina decided.
“Ew don’t put it like that he isn’t my friend either.”
“Well you could just tell us his name then,” Denki pointed out.
“Just call him Deku.”
“Ooo! Is that a nickname?” Mina asked, “Does he have one for you too?”
Katsuki felt his cheeks burn remembering the childish nickname Deku gave him.
“Oh! He so does —” Mina jumped to look at his phone screen again, then she gasped.
“He calls you Kacchan!” She actually screamed.
Denki actually looked like he was going to cry from laughing so hard and Kirishima was grinning at him wickedly.
“That’s freaking adorable!”
“SHUT THE HELL UP!” Katsuki yanked his phone away once again.
“So, when are you going to ask Deku out? Kacchan.”
Katsuki simply said, “Soon.”

The next Thursday came and Katsuki walked into the store on a mission. He found a bouquet of Izuku’s favourite flower — tulips , and he marched to the counter with them in hand.
Izuku looked up and met Katsuki’s gaze, his eyes lighting up and a smile spreading across his face. “Kacchan!” Izuku said happily, “Just those ones for today?”
This was Katsuki’s chance now, his palms were sweating and the flowers felt like they were slipping out of his hands. “Yes but — these aren’t for me” Katsuki quickly said, “These are for you, Izuku.”
Izuku gasped but took the bouquet from Katsuki’s hand. “Kacchan, these are my favourite flowers…” Izuku started before Katsuki interrupted him.
“I know.”
Now Izuku was the one blushing, his face a deep shade of red and Katsuki thought he looked like a strawberry. “Well um, thank you Kacchan” Izuku said and he looked like he wanted to say more, “I’ll just go take these to my car.”
“I’ll come with you,” Katsuki blurted out.
Katsuki followed Izuku outside to his car, thankfully it was almost closing time and the shop was empty. Izuku opened the passenger seat and carefully placed the bouquet, when he turned around Katsuki was looking at the ground.
“Kacchan?” Izuku asked softly, and Katsuki looked up and met his eyes.
Izuku lifted his hand to cup Katsuki’s jaw, the other hand finding the spikes of blond hair on his head. Katsuki cupped Izuku’s cheek in his hand as well, running his thumb along the constellation of freckles like he had dreamed of doing. Izuku’s eyes flicked between looking at his eyes and his lips.
He leaned in and closed the gap between them, their lips slotting together in a kiss. And oh, Katsuki definitely saw the appeal now. Katsuki grasped the front of Izuku’s shirt tugging him even closer as they kissed sweetly. Izuku’s lips were moving against his and his tongue was licking across Katsuki’s bottom lip.
Izuku’s lips were slightly chapped and he tasted like mint. Izuku was slightly more experienced than Katsuki but he was a quick learner. They kissed until he memorised the shape of Izuku’s lips and they were gasping for air.
When they pulled apart their faces were still inches apart, Izuku’s breathing was heavy over his face and Katsuki wanted to kiss him again. Who knew kissing could be so addictive. Maybe Katsuki was just addicted to Izuku .
“Go out with me,” Katsuki finally said.
Izuku’s smile was so wide as he answered, “Yes!”
