Chapter Text
Isagi Yoichi, the top students in his classes, is exhausted. Never, ever, has he felt this way before.
What the hell is going on?!
To sum it all up, Isagi Yoichi is an architecture student at a university called Blue Lock, a place where only the selected few in all of Japan can get in. Ego Jinpachi, the principle of the whole facility, and Vice President Anri choose which geniuses get the honour of studying here. Their goal is to create the number one student of each subject, and Isagi Yoichi, is number one in architecture. He’s confident in his skills to succeed, he never really worried about anyone taking his spot.
Until the past few days that is…
-Flashback-
The teacher of the architecture program decided to challenge his students, claiming if they can’t do this “simple” task, they’d never fulfil their dream of graduating. He assigned the class to not only make one large scale building, but THREE by the end of April, which was in two months, and that’s how long it takes to make ONE.
Safe to say that this class, was flabbergasted.
“WHATTTT?!”
“OH HELL NAH”
“WITH ALL DUE RESPECT, SIR, THIS IS CRUEL, EVEN FOR YOU”
“This is a joke… right…?”
Even top student Isagi Yoichi was unable to comprehend what his teacher just assigned to them, he never once regretted his decision of architecture more in his life.
“… what the fuck?”
Isagi was not pleased whatsoever, he already had his hand full studying for finals, now this ? He started to believe that fate hated him as he stared at the stack of papers in front of him, which is all explaining what the teacher expects and what to do. “These next weeks are actually gonna be hell of Earth…” Isagi muttered under his breath.
-End of Flashback-
Kunigami Rensuke, an Exercise and Physical Activity Science student, is greatly concerned at what he’s looking at, well, rather who he’s looking at. He sighed, he had planned to take a nice long shower and nap in his lovely bed when he got back to his dorm room, so why is his roommate, Isagi fucking Yoichi, in his room? He thought that Isagi was responsible for Christs sake, how’d he get their rooms mixed up? They’ve designed their rooms completely different, hell even their doors are different colours.
Kunigami sighed once more, “Isagi,” he gently shook him, he didn’t even stir, “Oi, Isagi.” He shook him harder this time, and once again, Isagi was still sleeping like a log. Annoyed, he picked Isagi up and not so gently placed on the floor, he then walked out of the room and came back with a jar of water.
“Isagi Yoichi, if you don’t wake up I’m gonna dump this jar of water directly on your face.”
And when the other didn’t respond, Kunigami dumped all the water from the jar onto his face. That got the other awake.
“WHAT THE FUCK, KUNIGAMI?!” Isagi screamed, coughing the water that got into his throat out, “THE HELL WAS THAT FOR?!”
The taller just shrugged, “I tried to wake you up many times, but you still wouldn’t wake up,” he responded, “how’d you, Mr. Perfect, mistake my room for yours?”.
Said Mr. Perfect was shocked, “Eh?”, He looked around and realized that his roommate was right, he was in the wrong room, “How the hell…?”, Kunigami sighed again, “That’s what I want to know.”, he muttered with slight exhaustion.
Isagi looked so done with life, Kunigami noted, lately, he’s been getting more and more clumsier than ever. He’s seen Isagi asleep at the dinner table on top on many drafts and papers next to a large cup of instant coffee. Since he’s an athlete major student, he’s very serious about health, including his roommates, so seeing the several cups of instant coffee laying around the house is greatly concerning.
“Do I even want to know how high your blood pressure is?” Kunigami questioned, having a plan to get the other out of this depressing environment depending on the answer he got.
“Uh, hell I don’t even know, to be honest.” The shorter replied sheepishly.
And that was it, before either of them knew it, Kunigami was dragging Isagi out the door. The fact that Isagi, someone who always makes sure that he’s in good health, doesn’t know what his blood pressure was at is more than concerning at this point.
“KUNIGAMI?! WHERE ARE YOU TAKING ME, I HAVE WORK TO DO.”
“Not anymore you don’t,” Kunigami replied stubbornly, Isagi kept thrashing around and trying to fight back, “this is a weekend, a day where you have free time outside of school.”
“EXACTLY!! PERFECT TIME TO WORK ON THIS GODFORSAKEN ASSIGNMENT.”
“OH MY GOD JUST SHUT UP ALREADY, WILL YOU?!”
Finally, Kunigami managed the other out of the dorm building and get him outside, already having a vague idea on where to go. Isagi was still mopey and grumbling, not enjoying the fact that he’s missing precious time to work.
“Where are we going anyways?” Isagi questioned with no enthusiasm in his voice whatsoever. Kunigami didn’t answer and just urged him to follow, leaving the other slightly annoyed. He takes notice that he’s never been in this area even though it’s not that far from campus, ‘ too bad, this area is really nice,’ he thinks.
After a few more minutes of walking, they’re in front of a cafe, one with a very welcoming feel to it, Isagi suddenly feels a lot lighter for some reason. “Here we are,” the athlete exclaims as he opens the door inside, “if you’re going to drink coffee, might as well drink some good one in a nice environment.”, and when they stepped inside, it felt like stepping into a new world.
Inside the cafe was the smell of freshly brewed coffee and baked goods. It looked very thoughtfully designed and it’s clear that the designer aimed for a comfortable setting. There are warmed tone colours that aren’t too bright yet complement each other perfectly, art pieces that match the decor, and there are even beanbags to sit on, some people even taking a nap there with a cat.
Isagi assumes that the cat was this cafes mascot, judging by the logo.
Then a new, soft voice called out, “Oh, Kunigami! You've brought a friend with you too, I see.” Isagi looked up only to find the most beautiful boy that matches the voice perfectly.
The boy had the gentlest smile on his face, his hair a warm and fluffy brown with yellow highlights, slightly shorter than Isagi. Although he looked incredibly “soft”, he had this boyish charm to him. He wore a simple white dress shirt under his yellow apron, he seemed like the perfect person fit for this environment.
“Yo, Bachira, and yeah, this guy next to me needed to get outside and have some good coffee,” Kunigami responded with a small smile, “and one for me too, of course”.
“Haha, sounds good, I'm assuming you want the regular, Kunigami?” the cute cashier, who’s apparently named Bachira, asked as he watched him nod in confirmation, “alrighty, what about you, uh, sorry, but what’s your name?”
“A-Ah, right, I’m Isagi Yoichi, student at Blue Lock University,” Isagi was caught off guard when Bachira looked over at his direction, suddenly feeling flustered and embarrassed, “nice to meet you.”
“Oh! You go there too?? What a coincidence, I do too!” Bachira exclaimed excitedly.
Isagi looked up in shock, “Eh? You do? How do you have the free time to have a part time job?”
Bachira giggled, the architect felt his face heating up, “I’m a visual arts major, it’s pretty chill other than the high expectations for the students,” the cute boy answered, “my mom is one of the teachers for that program too, so I’ve asked her and my other teachers for their permission to work!”
Although Kunigami has heard the reasoning before, both he and his roommate were still pretty amazed that a Blue Lock student is able to work and study at the same time.
“Heh, yep, that’s my life, but it’s really not that bad, I love working here! It’s such a cozy and comforting environment here and we make the best coffee! People say that this is the hidden gem of this area, but I’d like to keep it that way yknow?” Bachira went on, talking about the café with so much fondness, Isagi didn’t know someone could make a face like that.
“Anyways I’m rambling, my bad, so, what kind of coffee would you like?”
Isagi chuckled, “no you’re all good, I enjoyed listening to you speak about the cafe, I admire your passion for it,” Bachira blushed at the sudden compliment and lightly laughed it response, “but I’ll take a regular latte, please and thank you.”
“My what good manners! I’ll make sure you get your coffee real fast then, Yo-chan.”
‘Yo-chan’ flushed when he heard the nickname and stuttered a thanks. He desperately tried to keep it together as he sat down at a table with Kunigami, who, unfortunately, noticed his behaviour.
“What’s this? The top student of one of the hardest courses in Blue Lock is blushing at a cute cashier who just so happens to go to the same school, how poetic.”, the taller smirked as leaned over the table to tease the other.
“Oh my fucking god, Kunigami,” Isagi’s face only heat up more at the comment, “I’m gonna jump you in your sleep tonight.”
Kunigami just laughed as they participated in a friendly banter, neither meaning any true ill intent, both feeling at ease in the cafe while they wait for their coffee. Right on cue, Bachira walks towards them holding their drinks.
“Here ya guys are, one latte and one dark coffee.” he exclaims as he sets the two cups down ever so gently, and it’s safe to say that Isagi’s jaw had dropped to the ground.
“Man, Bachi, your latte art never fails to amaze me, your art in general actually,” Kunigami chuckles, taking a photo before blowing the coffee gently so he doesn’t burn himself, “don’t you agree, Isagi?”.
Said person was still awestruck by the drink, he had no idea that art on coffee was even possible, “yeah,” he breathes out, “this is truly stunning, you made this Bachira?”, he asked, but it wasn’t the artist who responded.
“Not only did he make the coffee and the art, but he also designed the interior and the art pieces on the walls.”
Everyone turned towards the source of the new voice. Both Isagi and Bachira were pleasantly surprised to see who it was.
“Chigiri! What a surprise I didn’t expect to see you here,” Isagi exclaimed, slightly upset that he was the only one who didn’t know about this place, though more amazed by Bachira’s work, “but you did the whole layout of this place, Bachira?”
Him, Chigiri, and Kunigami have known each other since high school, since then they’ve become a well-known trio to locals, these three were always seen together. Apparently Kunigami texted Chigiri that they were all here.
“Haaaa, Chi, you didn’t have to put me on the spot yknow? It’s embarrassing...” Bachira looked fairly flushed and sighed, but he nodded his head to respond to his new customer, “but yes, I designed the interior, exterior, and the paintings.” he stated bashfully.
Safe to say that Isagi was full on hooked on the barista, everything about him is just so... stunning, perfect even. He's now just watching in awe as the other three talk about the talented boy.
Is it normal, to think so highly of a person you just met?
His thoughts were cut off by Chigiri who was raising his eyebrows at Isagi’s sudden silence.
“You good, Isagi? You’ve been quiet for a while now.”
The targeted person only stuttered as his roommate laughed at him, even Bachira let out a light chuckle, which resulted in a shade of red to be visible on his face.
After chatting for a while, it was then time to close up shop, Bachira bid everyone goodbye as he saw them out the cafe, after all, he's still an employee.
"Ara, Meguru-kun, thank you for closing up the cafe for us, are you sure you didn't want to leave with your friends?" an elderly woman asked him politely as always.
Bachira just let out a soft laugh as he responded, "It's alright, I'm the one who said that I'll close up shop anyways, Kiyoko-san."
Kiyoko is the woman who runs this cafe along with her husband. When Bachira first came across this place, it didn't look like this, warm and homey, it looked rather old and grey. For some reason, Bachira felt as if he could make a change in this place when he saw the "now hiring" sign, and he did. He spoke to the owners and became their first and favourite employee, the elderly couple were more than happy to purchase new furniture and paint for the walls, the only reason why they haven't done it before was that they were too weak to do any heavy lifting on their own.
After they made the purchases, Bachira did the rest. He created the logo, chose the colour scheme, placed the furniture, and even created a mural and signs for the cafe. A few days after it was finished, people started to gradually come in and the cafe was then known as the hidden gem for the locals.
Bachira had just finished closing the cafe when he finished reminiscing on the past, after bidding his manager a good night, he was on his way back home. When he got home, he was warmly greeted by his mother.
"Meguru! Welcome home, sweetie, how does pasta sound for dinner tonight?"
"Haha, I'm home, mama, and pasta sounds amazing right now."
"Perfect, you can go to your room and rest while I make dinner," she continues, Bachira was about to argue before he was cut off, "and no buts, you worked hard today. Not only did you have work but I gave you guys a pretty big assignment to do, so go get some rest."
Bachira sighed, there was no winning against his mom, "thank you, mama, if you need anything just call me."
"You know I will, Meguru, now go get some rest."
"Hai Hai, see ya later." Bachira giggled as he went up to his room. When he got there he suddenly got a text from an unknown number.
"Oh? Who could it be?"
