Work Text:

Peter's always reminded him of someone, but Scott couldn't place who. He couldn't figure out what it was about Peter, either. Nobody else on Earth has that kind of speed, he doesn't have any students like Peter, and his personality — fortunately — seems to be exclusive to the speedster. It wasn't until Scott was walking the halls and he passed the rec room when he realized.

Scott heard laughter and sounds coming from a video game, so he wanted to check if there were any students out when they weren't supposed to be. Looking inside, he saw Hank and Peter sitting on the floor in front of the TV. Peter was holding the controller and Hank was watching. After the telltale sound of a character dying, they passed the controller off.

“I didn't expect to see you two out,” Scott said, entering the room.

Sure, Peter's technically a student, but he wasn't treated as one. He was one of the X-Men, so he got the same privileges the rest of them had, being able to roam at night. Charles really had no choice in the matter, though, since Peter doesn't seem to ever sleep anyway.

“Oh, hey, Scott,” Hank said, not turning around. He had the controller now.

“You didn't have any two player games?” Scott asked, seeing another controller by the TV.

“Well, yeah, but the new Sonic game came out,” Peter said, watching Hank's game intently.

Sonic..? What kind of game is that? And why does the name sound familiar?

Scott didn't really take a good look at the screen when he was talking to the guys since he didn't care about what they were playing, but hearing the name sparked his interest. He looked at the screen and amidst the different shades of red, he could make out a slight purple. That probably meant the figure was blue.

“What is it?” Scott asked.

“Your question is too vague, what do you mean?” Hank responded.

Scott rolled his eyes. “What's the game?”

“Sonic the Hedgehog. It's a………….” Everything else was drowned out. Sonic. A blue hedgehog. That's what it was! That's what Peter reminded him of. He's fast, obnoxious, and carefree to the point he could easily get himself hurt by accident. Of course!

How could Scott forget about Sonic? It's not every day that you save the world with an oversized vibrant hedgehog. That was before Scott needed the visor, when he could see color. That was long ago, though, and Sonic went back home. Maybe that theory about every story being a different universe is true, if there are games with Sonic in them.

Scott would keep that to himself, though. Hank would geek out if he knew that both multi-dimensional travel and video games characters were real.
